Swim
Comments: Swim was cut short because of the water temperatures. After the ankles went numb, I didn't have any problems with the cold (I think). I feel like I could get my swim form proper... that i was just sort of flailing around. I'm content with my time, but think i have a lot of room for improvement. Rounding the buouy wasn't bad, but wasn't great... got pretty congested + I think i could fight a little more in there. What would you do differently?: Practice OWS more! Transition 1
Comments: Frikkin cold and raining. A long hill from the swim up to T1. Had to run on gravel in T1 (didn't put mats down) but it didn't matter b/c my feet were so numb. Couldn't get wetsuit off ankles in one foul swoop, but my hands and feet were so numb I couldn't do anything. Very slow because I put on jacket and gloves and shoes in transition (so cold + gravel = not fun running with bike and probably dangerous trying to flying mount and get into shoes in the rain while cold and numb). Nonetheless, I had the 24th fastest transition time of the day... and everyone (except the elites and the nuts) had similar times to me or slower. What would you do differently?: probably go a bit faster... but i know this transition was a writeoff anyway. Probably could have shaved a minute if I was a bit more organized and had used the proper transition bag to stuff my wetsuit, rather than trying to tie a garbage bag. Bike
Comments: wet bike course so took things not as aggressive as I maybe could have. Was happy with how I performed considering the rain and cold. What would you do differently?: Learn to push harder - I think i could definately still push harder on the bike. Train more on the bike Transition 2
Comments: I couldn't feel my feet for the entire bike. I wasn't even going to attempt taking m feet out on top of the shoes because of that. I couldn't get my feet into my shoes b/c they were so cold so just HTFU'd and painfully rammed them. Had to take off my jacket and gloves too as to not be too hot. Run
Comments: I couldn't feel my feet for the first 3km. The run felt fine... I couldn't really push the pace (off of percieved effort - didn't have my garmin or a watch) so maybe i did and maybe i didn't. What would you do differently?: nothing. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: The cold. Train more on the bike! Event comments: GREAT race! Just a little late in the season for Alberta in the mountains. However, while it was cold and rainy this race day, on the same day in 2009 it was 30C and hot hot hot. It's just hit and miss and you have to go in with a good attitude!
