Swim
Comments: considering this was my first ocean swim in a tri, and only the second half mile swim I've done (3rd overall) and I brought my time from 18min to 13 min I was happy. Got kicked in the eye right at the start, but recovered and never looked back. Just need to work on technique...especially bilateral breathing to improve time and efficiency. What would you do differently?: not much, i felt pretty good. Started near the back and outside, but it was a huge wave so still crowded. Just need to get technique down Transition 1
Comments: this was awful. My heel got caught putting on my bike shoes and my hands and feet were so numb I struggled to fix the shoe. I was also off balance from a longer cold swim so I started a little wobbly on the bike and took a couple tries to snap into my cleats. What would you do differently?: take the extra second with my shoes so I dont get stuck and just practice T1 in cold water to get used to effect on numbness and balance Bike
Comments: I didnt drink much, but it wasnt a long ride. The course was rough on the fast hills-bad pavement but my overall speed was better than average without blowing past my target heart rate What would you do differently?: Not much, just keep practicing hills Transition 2
Comments: aside from almost dumping my bike when I went one leg at the end because of a route, this transition went great. Had a little trouble with my Yankz laces, but just ignored it and moved on since it was a short run What would you do differently?: Not much, maybe practice the lace tightening a bit. Run
Comments: The run says 3, but it was only 2.8. Still a very good run for me as I try to stay around 7-715 for this distance. No cramping issues this time, just a little winded on the hill What would you do differently?: Not forget my foot sensor! didnt matter though Post race
Warm down: had a couple waters, muffin, cereal bar and a piece of watermelon. Waited for the results and then got a bagel and coffee What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much. still have plenty of room to improve the swim (but I'm happy with my improvements in just my 3rd race), work on hills for the bike and run. I was very relaxed this race as I signed up for it only 5 days in advance and didnt expect much since the swim kind of made me nervous. Event comments: Cops were great about blocking traffic and there were plenty of people to tell you where to go. The swim wave had a bad start (caught everyone off guard), but otherwise a pretty well run race. Last updated: 2010-08-06 12:00 AM

4am wake up (early race!). little ice coffee, cereal and a piece of toast with a glass of water. Ate a banana when I arrived
set up my transition and did a 5 min run to see the swim and transition areas. Drank some more water and then went for a swim as the water was frigid cold.
