Swim

  • 1750 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim training has been lacking this summer, and with no wetsuit, I decided to just go easy on the swim. I completed the swim at an easy, comfortable pace. This made for a kind of slow swim, but I left the water feeling fresh for the bike & run.

I felt like I swam straighter than I often do in tri's - I seemed to have less need for course correction than I often do, so that was a bounus. I also managed to catch a couple of good drafts during the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Do more swim training so I can go a little harder on the swim
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Good T1. I opted not to try shoes on the bike for this race because I heard there was a steep hill out of transition. Turns out there was enough flat road before the hill starts that it probably would have been okay. Maybe next time!
What would you do differently?:

Overall a pretty efficient transition. Next race I may try to mount with shoes on the bike...
Bike
  • 1h 21m 3s
  • 24.6 miles
  • 18.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Used the PM & HR to pace the bike. I think I could have gone a little harder and been fine for the run. Since bike training has not been as strong as I would like, I held back a bit on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Do some more accurate field testing to more accurately define HR & power zones for racing. I definitely could have pushed the bike a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Not a bad transition. I took a little longer than I probably needed to, but overall pretty happy.
Run
  • 55m 30s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt like I had a solid run. Again, I probably could have pushed a bit harder early in the run, but held back a bit for the last half. Felt good to finish the run with a sub-9:00 min/mile pace.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder, learn to run through aid stations, or take shorter walk breaks.
Post race
Warm down:

Nice iced towels and shower station at the end of the race!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limited swim & bike training, holding back when I should have pushed...

Event comments:

This was a really well run race, and definitely one I would do again!
