Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:50 about 10 mins before the alarm.
Had peanut butter and honey toast and a cup of coffee. Choked dowm most of the toast as I really don't like to eat first thing in the am...
Got loaded up and left the house at around 5:45 arriving on site about 6:20. Found a good parking spot and began to set up my transition and get my cap and chip.
Event warmup:

Nothing really
Swim
  • 21m 36s
  • 875 yards
  • 02m 28s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was rough. There were pretty good waves. I thought given the circumstances that I was able to do a pretty good job though. I was able to site okay and stayed in line pretty well given the chop. I was told that I was around third out of the water from my wave.
I choose the last wave because at the time I signed up I was still a work in progress with the swim (Still am!) and I am not disappointed that I did. I worked really hard to stay within myself and swim my race and not get caught up in someone elses stroke which I feel I did pretty well. When I rounded the last turn I was able to pick it up a little (for me) and passed a couple of people from my wave and also a few from the wave ahead.. I almost swam right into a women who was stopped and treading water just seeing her at the last second to avoid a collision...
I was happy with my swim all in all.
What would you do differently?:

Not get psyched out when looking at the swim course to begin with. LOL
It looked awfully far!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 51m 27s
  • 13.67 miles
  • 15.94 mile/hr
Comments:

This is a workout! It is not very long but the hills are tough. As I said I am glad I rode the course before the race. I will ride this course much more next season as I think this will help build strength for other races too.
Hard course but I did enjoy the race.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the course more beforehand to get stronger.
Transition 2
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

I improved this transition from my previous race by about 53 seconds
What would you do differently?:

nothing really. maybe get shoes I don't have to tie.
I could also leave my cycling shoes on the bike like some do.
Need to practice that for next season...
Run
  • 30m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Coming out of transition I went the wrong way but was corrected and turned around. Right out of the gate it is uphill and my legs were tired from the hilly bike. I thought I was going to hae to walk just before getting to the road but I fought through the urge to do that and continued on. There was one good big hill just before the turn around that was also tough. I had a drink of heed from one of the aid stations and up the hill I went tried to keep pace. The nice thing is after the turn around you get a nice downhill! I was able to get my legs back on that downhill and had the strength to increase my pace a little to finish strong for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really
Post race
Warm down:

Walked, caught up with my family

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being new once again to triathlon my first year back.
Lack of experience.
I am sure that next year I will be even better with more experience.

Event comments:

I really enjoyed this race!
Beautiful course!

Course: The Course is Hilly! There were Two really Killer hills. The second as you turn back towards the race site which had a really strong headwind to add to it. I rode this course before so I knew what to expect and I am glad I did because it did help me to attack it intelligently and I think my strategy really helped.
