Run
Comments: I did not finish this race well. I started strong, but the pace was too fast. I'm not a good runner in the heat by tradition, and today was no exception. I got hot hot hot and I ran out of gas by the end. Ironically, my time was only 21 seconds slower than my PR set last year. That knowledge frustrates me because if I had run a more consistent race, I could have easily achieved a PR today. What would you do differently?: I came into the race with a game plan to get a PR today (sub 51:00) and even run sub 50:00. I did not follow that plan because running with one of my Luke's runner had me running too quickly at the start. I think I averaged 7:30 miles for the first two. That turned out to be too fast. Consequently, I tanked in the end. What would I do differently? I will stick to my race plan. Period. Post race
Warm down: Standing around, drinking, sweating, and trying to catch my breath. What limited your ability to perform faster: The heat and starting the race too quickly. Event comments: I love this race and I love this course. It has easy and challenging elements. It is always well run with tons of terrific volunteers. Plus, you can't beat the location at the Arboretum when their fall festival kicks off with pumpkin houses. Last updated: 2010-08-18 12:00 AM

Breakfast. Met up with one of my Luke's runners and gave her a ride to the Arboretum. At the race, I took a gel prior to the start.
10 minute run followed by some stretching.
