Pre-race routine:

I jogged about 10 min just to get things warmed up. Truth: I forgot my swim cap and had to run back to the transition area and barely made it back to the swim start in time.

Speed up a bit and practice.

I went out to hard and knew it. Saltstik also broke so I was without electrolytes. Bad. Cramped at mile 30 and sat on the bubble the rest of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Better early race pacing. Test gear. Never race with something new. The tablets in my Saltstik were new and they happened to be to big and got stuck. Also I had to change out a cracked stem 2 days before the race and rode the bike a couple of times but not with my aerobar drink bottle. The bottle drug on the front tire the entire race and I didn't know it until I walked the bike back to the truack to go home.

Get a small disposable bottle of sunscreen and apply while running.

Keep steady pace all the way until the end. Save the kick for the last bit to ward off any potential contenders.
