Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 142/363
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a small bowl of cereal. Stopped and got bannana and energy bar. Ate bannana 1 hr prior to race, had some of the energy bar 30 min prior, did not eat all of it. Kept hydrating with water gatorade mix.
Event warmup:

Warmed up by swimming 100 meters in pool prior to race start. Stretched a little after pool.
Swim
  • 09m 11s
  • 383 yards
  • 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Need to work on my breathing. Had to resort to breast stroke when freesyle crawl made me too tired.
What would you do differently?:

Practice
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

I toweled off which I should not have. Also noticed my energy bar had ants eating it and they were all in my transition set up. Dumb ! Could of cut 1 minute or so by not toweling off and having open food in my transition area. I ride in running shoes, so it took a little bit with socks and putting shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

No open food, not towel off.
Bike
  • 38m 5s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.48 mile/hr
Comments:

I nailed the ride. Passing people constantly. Speed was awesome, legs felt great, never pushed too hard, but pushed hard. Felt my time was very good.
What would you do differently?:

Try to push it a bit harder next time. I wasn't too sure how I would feel hitting the run as this was my first Triathlon. I didn't go all out on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

I ride with my shoes so this transtion was going to be the easiest for me.
Hoped off bike and had to run through all of transition to get to my rack.
What would you do differently?:

I would of ran harder through the transition area to my rack. I ran half way to my rack and walked the rest. Prolly took a bit too much time grabbing a chug of water and takeing a couple deep breaths before hitting the run. I didn't realize water was directly outside transition area. Could of saved maybe 15-20 secs.
Run
  • 33m 52s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 10m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Blah
What would you do differently?:

I quit smoking. I was out of oxygen which zapped my energy. Normally I can throw down 8:30 miles, 10:50 is embarrasing. This would of cut 6-7 min off my run placing me much higher overall. Irritating.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed ice cold towel for around neck, got some water, orange slices, cookie and looked for shade. Didn't stretch walked around a bunch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Smoking, just quit.

Event comments:

Can't wait to do this next year !
