Swim
Comments: So my wife brought my leg to water's edge after the first lap and we did a quick donning then ran about 100m in the sand and removed it for the second swim lap. She said I was 10th at that point, but several passed me while I was sitting on the beach. No big deal, the second lap was very crowded and I ended up spending a lot more energy passing people as a pack. Didn't feel strong at any point, but finished pretty well. Still need to work on sighting, and doing absolutely no breaststroke. For any reason. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing, still didn't feel bad, and I think all the changes need to take place this winter. Transition 1
Comments: good transition considering the sand and mud caked everywhere. Got everything else on in a hurry. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Will work that out in the spring. Maybe sit on bucket as soon as I get to the bike. Bike
Comments: Able to keep contact with a guy ahead of me for a change. Decided just to go as hard as I could and worry about the run later. The fourth lap was brutal as the little hills they did have seem to be right into the wind, so my speed dropped. dramatically. What would you do differently?: Will work on hills more this winter in order to maintain speed. Drank considerably less than before and I think that worked well. Only drank a full aerodrink bottle. One GU. Transition 2
Comments: good ending to the bike. had to run down off the road that was kind of tricky. Quick transition I thought. What would you do differently?: Will work on dismounting later. Just glad to not crash at this area of the race! Run
Comments: Good pace. My arms were cramping during the first mile, so I stopped and stretched at the first water stop and had a gu. Felt great after that and found a good pace shortly afterwards. Cristal ran with me the last two miles which provided a good pace. Really picked up the pace the last mile and crossed the finish line with absolutely nothing left. I was four seconds behind the guy in front of me, but I just ran out of gas. Great run though, very pleased with the 10:44 average. And that was with walking through every water stop. What would you do differently?: Push through a few water stops and try to catch more people. Post race
Warm down: just stretched a bit, drank two beers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing that can't be fixed with winter training. Event comments: Overall, not a bad race. Nice area and the courses are largely closed to traffic. There is no shade at any point, so this could potentially be a very hot race. I will do it again though! Last updated: 2010-08-28 12:00 AM

Got up at 0430, ate oatmeal and toast. Got to site and setup, body marked and walked around the swim beach area.
Swam for about 10 minutes after pulling on wetsuit. Looked like there was about 15 people who brought full wetsuits. This was a suprise as the weather has been hot overall but cooler nights, and I just grabbed mine as an afterthought. Triceps very tight, don't know why. Ate half of a power bar before race.
