Run
Comments: What's to say. I haven't run regularly since Late August. I knew it was going to be a just make it through the race kind of deal. Not how I saw my first half marathon playing out, but between Ironman recovery, being sick for 3 weeks and then being out of the country and traveling there wasn't much I could do about that. I was hoping to get under 3 hours but because the course ended up being long it didn't happen. Probably would have just made it otherwise. Ran for about the first 45 minutes and did various lengths of walk/run intervals after that. More walking then I would have liked. Fitness sure does slip away quickly. This took 20-30 minutes longer then it would have taken me this summer. What would you do differently?: Train? :) Oh and that stupid weight thing that always plagues me. Post race
Warm down: Just ate my banana and cheese stick and walked to the train. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight. Training. Event comments: Great race overall despite the city messing up the course last minute. The Swag is AWESOME. Best Quality stuff Ive received thus far. I got a lined hoodie with cool reflective printing (and thumb-holes!), and embroidered winter hat, and the finishers metal was a unique belt buckle. Also picked up a cool nylon shell jacket for super-cheap that has a skeleton on it at the "monster store" on race day. Only thing I missed was I didn't see the supposed trick-or-treat station at the half-way point. Was it there? Was fun watching everyone run by in costumes. Made for good entertainment while running. Race is also I-pod/MP3 friendly which is nice. Will do it again if they return next year. Not bad for their first shot in Chicago I'm sure next year will be even better.
