Swim
Comments: Started on the inside as a lot of people were crowding the outside line. After a quick run / wade I started swimming and found a comfortable pace pretty quickly. I copped a couple of mouthfuls of water (yuk) around the first buoy, but this made me concentrate on looking up to the sky while breathing and was in a good rythem. I was surprised that it was crowded the whole way around and was banging legs / arms most of the way. What would you do differently?: Not too much at this stage. Good to concentrate on own race at this stage. Transition 1
Comments: I had my top of wetsuit off before I exited the water which was really good! The run up to transition was a little difficult, but found my bike and got out of the wetty pretty quick. Only issue was that I couldn't get onto my peddles immediately once on the bike, but not too bad. What would you do differently?: Ensure that my goggles and swim cap don't come out of arm when removing top half. I had to watch that on the run into transition this time. Bike
Comments: There was a slight headwind while heading south, but that made it better heading back north. I managed to average around 30km/h into the wind which was great and then about 35km/h with the wind! I was pretty happy with the bike leg, but didn't manage to make up many places as a lot of people had really good bikes... oh well! What would you do differently?: probably try to push even harder... I felt pretty fresh after the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Strangely I felt really good getting off the bike and legs didn't seem to be bothering me too bad. I got off the bike at high speed (maybe too quick) but comfortable run to bike rack. I had my socks pre-rolled to allow for quick entry which was a good time saver! What would you do differently?: Try to get my shoes on quicker... it might be worth getting elastic laces, however my run is so slow still, that it wouldn't change much. Run
Comments: Legs started to hurt about 300m into run and I really struggled until around the 3km mark. I think I lost a lot of places on the run as I seemed to be a lot slower than the majority. The last 2km were good though and I picked up the pace a little, but didn't make up much ground on anyone. What would you do differently?: Try REALLY hard to push harder early on and then hold that pace. This would hurt, but When I finished I still felt good, so obviously didn't push hard enough on the run. Post race
Warm down: Pretty much nothing. Went for breakfast with Hayden and Hilly who had also come to give support! Good to see him and chat about his tri's too! What limited your ability to perform faster: Running still seems to be my weakness. But maybe the week leading up to event I should make sure to follow my training program. Event comments: Can't wait for the rest of the series!! Last updated: 2010-09-05 12:00 AM

Up at 4:40am and after a quick breakfast (smoothy), left at 5:05 and I picked up Hayden who came with me for moral support! We arrived in St Kilda at around 6:15am, found a car park, and took all my gear to the registration desk and confirmed my entry. I set up my transition and watched the start of the Active Feet Mini tri.
About 10mins before my start I headed into the water for a quick swim. Only swam around 100m but good to feel the water temp and get my arms moving.
