Pre-race routine:

Woke up a couple hours before the race and had a slice of bread with peanut butter.
Event warmup:

I had just enough time before they closed the water for warmup to get in and get some water inside the suit. They closed the water five minutes earlier than planned which meant no swim warmup for me. Ended up doing arm swings and jogging in place to get the heart rate up.
Swim
  • 18m 7s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was decent but I ended up running into quite a few people.
What would you do differently?:

I need to spend more time in the water. Swim training, along with the rest of my training, took a bit of a hit this year.
Transition 1
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

The transition area was very long which made for quite a bit of running in cycling shoes. Overall a decent transition.
Bike
  • 48m 53s
  • 17.2 miles
  • 21.11 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course seemed to clump up a lot less than last year, possibly because of the warnings about time penalties for drafting. Race pace was just a bit slower than last year but my training volume was also lower.
What would you do differently?:

In hindsight, I probably could have pushed the pace just a little more in a couple areas.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Fairly fast transition given the size of the transition area.
Run
  • 39m 45s
  • 4.9 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

It was a decent run for me. The run continues to be my most challenging portion of the race but, given the amount of training I had done, I'm happy with the outcome.
What would you do differently?:

Focus training on running distance and speed improvements.
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching and walking around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Reduced training volume.

Event comments:

This was a great event. This year they improved pre-race communication, clearly laid out drafting rules, and generally took an already good race and made it better. The course is great and the large number of participants and spectators make for an exciting atmosphere.
