Swim
Comments: Swim went relatively well. Was somewhat suprised by time, as my watch had me at about 33:00, not sure where timing mat was located though. A litle congested at the start but it cleared out by the first turn. Was really apprehensive/nervouse at the beginning, as usual. Wish I could control nerves, as swimming is my best discipline. What would you do differently?: Not much, try to calm down at the beginning. Transition 1
Comments: took my time. Stupid arm warmers, which I didn't need, took too long to put on. Bike
Comments: Happy with my bike, as it has really improved over the summer. Got tired with about 10 miles to go. Course was good, not to hilly but some headwinds slowed me down. I'm constantly amazed at how fast most people are. I got passed by a shit-load of people. Wanted to avg 18-19 mph and did just that, so, no complaints. Accidently re-set bike computer an hour in and with very few mile signs, wasn't sure on my distance. What would you do differently?: Practice more on my bike. This is really my first real season of any biking, so I think w/ some good winter training, I can get my avg up consistanly over 19mph. Transition 2
Comments: no problems, good. Run
Comments: two words: BRUTAL, UN-PREPARED. My lack of run training due to IT surgery reared it's head today. I was whoafully unprepared. After an 8:53 first mile, I fell apart. Basically running 3 minutes and walking 1 minute, at least. I was my cardio was gone as were my legs. By the grace of God, a fellow runner, also named John, joined me at 5 miles. He noticed I was strugling and doing the run/walk and asked to join, HEll YES, I could use the company and encouragement. He was run/walking at 2/2 and that worked for me. We struggled through the next 5 miles together and continued hurting. The final 2 miles sucked. That bridge almost killed us, but the run down was ok. Made it into the park and decided to run the last 3/4 mile, into the park itself. I was hurting but made it. Saw my daughters down the finishing chute but didn't get a chance to cross the finish line with them, damn! I really wanted to enjoy that experience with them. What would you do differently?: Simple, train more. My surgery really prevented me from much run training this summer. I think with time, I can really improve here. Post race
Warm down: Joined family and rested for about 15 minutes, had no appetite and was dead tired. After resting, made my way to the food tent and filled up! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of run traing. On a bad note, my repaired IT leg felt great, no problems. But about half way through the run, I was feeling some pain in the OTHER IT band. I'm really nervous about that and will rest for a few days. Time to get the foam roller out and stretch! Event comments: Overall, race was good, I would do it again. Only suggestions would be: more explanation on where registration is, transition, finish line, etc. The hotel (Breakers) was useless in this area, so we had to kind of stumble around finding it all. Also could have used more explanation for the families on what to do on race day, do they need park tickets, where's the finish line, etc. Last suggestion: need more mile markers for the HIM on the bike course. Other than that, I'm real happy w/ REV 3 and the volunteers were GREAT!!! Last updated: 2010-09-13 12:00 AM

Slept like crap, been nervous all week. Woke up at 5:00am and had power bar/gatorade. Headed down to transition at 6:00 and got all set up, then back to hotel room for yogurt/granola, bagel and gatorade. Headed down to race start at 8:15, still nervous.
None, wetsuit on, ready to go.
