Swim
Comments: I got right up front again for this one. We weren't a full wave but we were the last wave. I charged out for a bit and then dove under. Like right away my goggles began to leak and I had to stop about 200 feet off shore and readjust them. The water temp was pleasant but there were a lot of slow people and that I knew was going to make this hard. Then not far from there, someone kicked my goggles off but I had them under my swim cap and that saved me. I fixed them and kept swimming. I started passing alot of people but I found that I would drift off to the left both on the way out and on the way back and had to keep adjusting my course. There were also a lot of people that weren't swimming very fast and getting around them wasn't fun. What would you do differently?: Watch my swim lines and stay against the buoy line more. Also watching for kicking people. But overall my pace was good. Transition 1
Comments: Okay this transition was not great. I had to walk out of the water, but once I got on the beach I started running and ran all the way up the hill and to the water to wash off my feet. That was probably not a good idea because when I got to my transition spot my helmet went on and then my sunglasses which fogged and I took off then I tried putting on my sock and my feet were too wet and it took me a really long time. I forgot to unbuckle my shoes too and I had to do that and put them on. I ran with my bike but when I mounted I had a really hard time clicking my feet into my pedals. It was certainly not my best transition ever! What would you do differently?: Let's see... don't wash my feet off, make sure my shoes are unbuckled, don't put my sunglasses on till just ready to leave and practice clipping my shoes in on my bike before the next race. Bike
Comments: Well, I got my butt kicked on the bike. I couldn't clip in my shoes well and then when I did, I look the first corner too sharp and almost wiped out in front of some volunteers. The hills were rollling for the first 9 miles. Then between miles 9 and 11, the hills picked up. The road was bumpy and rocky which hurt. Since my legs got shot so early on, any hill bigger than a mole hill was really hard. I just kept hanging on and watching for a person in front of me I could draw up on and pass. I made it and I was soo happy it was done. What would you do differently?: I NEED to train hills!!!!!!!!!! I also just need to do a longer bike practice. Maybe I'll look into those spinervals with hills and get myself a bike trainer this fall for the winter. I know I can do better than that! But the wiping out was just scary! Transition 2
Comments: Since this was a relay and all I had to do was pull the chip off of my ankle and hand it to my dad, the transition time is really fast. It was really nice because I could hear my mom and dad cheering for me as I came up. What would you do differently?: Actually we fumbled a bit with the chip but it didn't make a huge difference on our time so so what! Run
Comments: He did an awesome job. This is the first 5K he has run straight. He said there was water stops at 1.5 miles and 2.5 miles and he grabbed some water at 2.5 miles. I am sooo very proud of him!! Post race
Warm down: I walked around, got out of my bike shoes because my socks were soaked and grabbed the rest of my powerade. I had 3/4 of a bottle on the bike and the rest afterwards. Then I got a bagel and some fruit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. This was my second race as a triathlete and I am still amazed that I am doing this. I will get better because I have the motivation to keep training and train harder! Event comments: The only thing that would have made this race better would have been finishers' medals. The course was too hard for my ability at this point but I used all I had and got through it. There was over 200 volunteers that were absolutely wonderful taking care of making sure the route was marked and maning two waterstations on the bike route. There were people along side of the road that were cheering on everyone which was great and kept me moving. I could seriously do some good work on this course if I train harder. I just need to work on it! Last updated: 2006-02-18 12:00 AM

I got up at 3:45 because I couldn't sleep but I didn't have to get up till 4:00 so I laid there. I had a fruit leather at 4:30 with part of a bottle of water and a Cool Mint Cliff bar around 5:30. We got there shortly after 5:30 and I got my registration packet and had my bike checked. Then after getting body marked I walked to where I was suppose to go and had a 1/2 a packet of Cliff shot blocs which I really don't like much. Then went down to the beach at 6:45 and listened to the prerace comments and talked to some other relay people before waiting for my start.
I didn't warm-up. I don't like warming up and I really should learn how to do it. But oh well.
