Swim
Comments: Took it easy at the start. Tried to stay relaxed and save energy. Stayed close to the bouys and really didn't engage anyone on the way out. Once I rounded the far corner though, I had a hard time navigating. The sun was in my eyes and I could find the bouys. Plus, people around me were getting off course and cut me off a couple of times. What would you do differently?: Start a little more aggressively to prepare for Ironman. Breath to my left for better navigation. Transition 1
Comments: Took too much time in transition. Feet got stuck in wetsuit. Mounted in transition by accident and quickly got off the bike - no penalty! What would you do differently?: Run up the hill and practice with wetsuit. Bike
Comments: I felt pretty good on the bike; certainly didn't have any bike problems. I did have trouble with my Garmin and spent the first 7 mi. playing with it. Nutrition was not right. I ate 2 packages ofshot blocks, 2 bottles of drink, and 1 sm bottle water. I think this is what set me up for trouble in the run. I handled the hills well, with the exception of that really steep one. Man, I ran out of gearing both times! Did some back and forth with other riders, andI dropped most. A couple toward the end got me. What would you do differently?: Get longer training rides in before race day! Get a better handle on my nutrition and practice it. Do more hills in training. Put sunscreen on (got sun burned) Transition 2
Comments: No problem. Legs actually felt ok. What would you do differently?: Put sunscreen on (may have been too late). Bring a visor next time. Run
Comments: Felt great for the first 3 mi. In fact, I felt like I was getting stronger up until mile 4 or so. Then around 5 1/2 things started not to feel right. At the turn around, I knew it was going to be a struggle. John passed me around mile 6 and I had had a 9 min. headstart from the swim. I switched to water for a while as I had some bloating and air in my stomach from the HEED and GU's. I started walking around mile 10 and struggled until the end. What would you do differently?: Do more long runs and practice more bricks. Really need to work on nutrition. I think heart rates and effort were right. I just ran out of steam. Post race
Warm down: Not much. Just stood in the lake and relaxed. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and nutrition. Event comments: Roads could be better. Its a challenging course, but fun. Good race prep. for Ironman Wisc. Last updated: 2010-10-05 12:00 AM

Got up aroun 4 am. Didn't get a great night's sleep. Drank a fruit smoothy ~ 900 calories. John picked me up and we headed down. Set-up transistion and found Megan and Sam. Pretty uneventful.
Light jog. Not really much of a stretch.
