Pre-race routine:

Up at 3:45 AM. Showered and ate a peanut butter sandwich and a banana. Left for race start at 4:45 AM. Arrived at race start at just about 5 AM. There was no traffic and we parked pretty close. It was a little chilly so we waited in the car for a bit.
Event warmup:

At about 5:45 AM my friend and I started to take off our warm-up gear. I started to have a mini-freak out about getting to the race start, so he kindly dropped off my clothes at the gear check for me. He also gave me a mylar blanket from a previous race that I used to keep warm until a few mins before race start. I jogged over to the race start and was able to start very close to the front.

Comments:

I ran a negative split and was quite happy. I averaged about a 7:18ish pace for the first 10 miles (although I took Miles 1-3 a bit fast), about 7:07 for the next 10 and 7:02 for the last 10K. I had to remind myself several times during the first 10 miles to be patient and it paid off in the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water, ate a banana and wished they had some gatorade. :)

Event comments:

I really, really liked this race (though I may have also fallen in love with Carlsbad while I was there, so that may bias my opinion). :) I liked that the full marathon started 1.5 hours before the half, so there were no lines for port-a-potties at the start. I also liked the early (6 AM) start. The weather couldn't have been better and the race was very well run. It was also nice to do a smaller race and be able to finish in the top 10 women. I hope to do this race again.
