  • Comments: This is a very good small race. Course is challenging with 1,100 ft of climbing which suits my strengths well. I live here and train on the course so it is sort of a no brainer for me.

  • Comments: Can't harp too much on the areas I need to improve upon. I think I learned a lot about how to train smarter and recover faster. Although I believe I missed a prime opportunity to get a 3:10 I still had a PR and knocked 4 minutes off my previous Marathon time. Can't argue with that.

  • Comments: I really, really liked this race (though I may have also fallen in love with Carlsbad while I was there, so that may bias my opinion). :) I liked that the full marathon started 1.5 hours before the half, so there were no lines for port-a-potties at the start. I also liked the early (6 AM) start. The weather couldn't have been better and the race was very well run. It was also nice to do a smaller race and be able to finish in the top 10 women. I hope to do this race again.

  • Comments: Only a few things not so great: 1. they had very few bathrooms along the way...almost none. Tons at the start/finish but a few more from miles 13-18 would have been nice. 2. Joining the 1/2 marathoners. When we re-joined them at mile 20, we were with some of the not-so-speedy runners, and there were a lot of them. For a while, we were separated by cones, but then joined with them, and had to pass and weave through a lot of the walkers. Not so easy at mile 23 through an aid station! Good things: Awesome spectators! Tons of aid stations (although one didn't have water...???) They had our names on our bibs, and spectators would often cheer specifically for you, it was great :)

  • Comments: Great race! Field for the full was relatively small compared to the 1/2, so generally not crowded except when the two distances merged.

  • Comments: only complaint was that the half marathoners joined us for the last 5 miles. I had a lot of juice in me and too much energy was spent weaving through walkers! It was frustrating.... Other than that, the volunteers were great. Having an aid station every mile made me :)

  • Comments: Early start for marathon makes for a great start. Plenty of porta-potties and parking is right next to the start / finish. Palomar Airport Rd. is a tough section with about 3 miles of climbing. You do get to come back down, but that saps your legs of strength you'll need in the later miles. It is a tough test and a challenge to strategize how to tackle the hill.

  • Comments: I love the Carlsbad 1/2 Marathon. This was my fourth year in a row doing the race and its by far my favorite race. I hope I get to do it for many more years. I also love that they give you a nice dry-fit long sleeved running shirt.

  • Comments: Now a few days later as I write this I can say it really turned into a long run. It was actually a 20 mile hard marathon pace run with another 4 or so much slower. So thankfully I am not as sore as expected. Time to move on...IMCA 70.3 in 10 weeks so I need to focus on that. I am in zero week for running and will start back on another 4 week post mary plan to get me to a 10K and then maintain fitness for IMCA. I will have to accomplish this whole some other time.

  • Comments: Great race, well organized with plenty of volunteers which did a great job all over the course. With that said, I would like to thank the volunteers, my fellow BT members for the inspires, advice, and support. And to my family who was behind me all the time while training, before, during and after the race!
