Run
Comments: The first 5 miles I was on pace. My ave. mile pace was right at 7:57. Then my stomach started cramping so I slowed and took it easy. At about mile 7 1/2 - 8 I started cramping. I knew this was probably going to happen because with being sick I knew I wasn't hydrated properly but I did my best the past week to take in as much fluids as possible. I need to start experimenting with salt because my sweat rate is really high and my face looked like a powdered doughnut and I think this attributed to the cramping. The last few miles were tough and I walked a bit but I made it through. What would you do differently?: Not get sick LOL. I am going to experiment with salt-tabs in my training. I had cramping issues in my tri's this year and this was similar and I think I just sweat so much out that it is hindering my results. Post race
Warm down: Walked through the tent and got a cookie and some Gatorade, water and a banana. I changed clothes and then we got some lasagna and root beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: illness and cramping Event comments: This is a great event. It was Jennies first official race and she really enjoyed it. I would like to see the bar area in the tent expanded because the lines were really loooooong!!! Otherwise great event. Better water stations than last year really helped also. To start this off, my first goal was to finish better than last year (1:57)I had been working on my run so my REAL goal was to maintain 8 min mile pace. My previous best was 10 miles at that pace over rolling terrain so I thought it would be possible on this course for 13.1. The problem with that was we all had a pretty bad case of the flu over the last week so I had to revise my goal knowing I wasn't feeling well. It was dissapointin to get ill right before the run but it's not a big deal. Jennie and I headed out at about 9. Got to the site and got our bibs and waited in the truck with the heat blasting. IT WAS COLD!!
Stretched and jogged a bit. Nothing special.
