Swim
Comments: I stood on the far right side on the beach. I waited a bit before even getting in the water. Swam outside most of the time. Water was a bit cold close to the beach but then it got a bit warmer. Saw the sun coming up during the first leg outbound and that was really special. Got hit a couple times, once they knocked my goggles off. Got stung bu jelly fish on my face and that burned a lot! Lots of jelly fish floating about 3 feet bellow the surface, it was an spectacular show! Overall a great swim. I felt relaxed and enjoyed every minute. Planned on 1hr15min, did in 1h13" not bad. What would you do differently?: I will jump closer to the middle and go hard next time Transition 1
Comments: Long transition but not too bad. Use the fresh water shower the most I could and the strippers were very helpful. Could not find a place to seat in the changing tent. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike was solid. Excellent pacing and cadence. Was hit by a horrible GI condition that made me stop looking for a place to take care of business. Used a dirt road and as soon as I turned in to it I fell. Scary experience but nothing bad happened to me or to the bike. I lost some valuable minutes "in the bushes" and for obvious reasons, the rest of the race was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Ended with a bad case of diaper rash...... I still caught up with some of the people I was riding before the "incident". I thought I was going to brake 6 hours until we got to the last leg where the headwind was too strong to maintain a good pace. What would you do differently?: Overall, very happy with my riding. I should have stopped at a bathroom ath the first call of nature....... I never thought it was that serious. I screwed up nutrition at breakfast. That I will change. NOTHING different. Transition 2
Comments: Shoes stayed on bike, bike catcher and not too long transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Considering all the previous events of the day, the fact that I ran all the time was pretty good. I walked the aid stations and once that I had a stabbing pain in my bladder, what made me think I was drinking too much. The naughty dancers in customs where a hit, those guys were hilarious! Thanks to them for cheering us up! Off course running is the hardest but you know that at then end of the run... that's it. And the idea of crossing the finish line kept me going. Eating was hard, I was just to sick and tired of freakin' gels..... ughh. What would you do differently?: Train more and better. BECOME A BETTER RUNNER Post race
Warm down: CHANGE TO DRY CLOTHES, COLLECT GEAR AND START WALKING TO THE CONDO. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. GI incident Event comments: Choosing IMFL for my first Ironman was the best decision. I am taking a brake but I think I'll come back here and will try to improve in ALL aspects. Great race, great venue, awesome volunteers. And the great memory of becoming an Ironman! Priceless... Last updated: 2010-11-08 12:00 AM
