Pre-race routine:

Friday and Saturday before the race abstained from wheat products and ate lots of rice. Left the house at 6AM and had some terrible GI distress on the way, stopped at wrong exit (no bathroom) and had to find way back to US6. Made it to rest stop in the nick of time. GI issues continued right up to race time. Had bananas and coffee for breakfast.
Event warmup:

None, spent most of the time in the bathroom or talking with Emily, who came along. Saw the BT clan at the ballroom just before the race.

Comments:

Started out a little too fast and paid for it with a real slow spell mid-race. Glasses fogged up at mile one, so had to take them off and couldn't see any of the scenery the rest of the way. Undertrained due to weather, hamstring and foot pain and schedule, so wasn't expecting much. Hamstring cramps in mile 7 and 8 resolved by mile 9. Game plan was to go out slow, build speed and sprint the last 5K. Got the 5K part right but neglected my Garmin at the outset and goofed up. Maybe I was thinking I could sustain that pace, but I was kidding myself.

Splits:
10:48
10:47
10:57
11:02
11:29 (slowing down)
11:29
11:50 (hamstring cramp)
11:24 (cramp subsides)
11:12 (feeling better and picked it up)
11:31 (when will the 10 mi marker come?)
9:41 (this really hurt)
10:13 (passing lots of folks but they were likely marathoners)
10:09 (all out charge, running out of gas)
2:24 (the faster I run, the sooner its over)

3:09 improvement over last year (PB). Not bad considering level of training, conditions and injury. I'll take it.
What would you do differently?:

Go to PT when injured and not wait until after race. Avoid anything but rice day before.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked ten minutes or so and then had some snacks with the BT crew. Walked to car and got change of clothes, showered and went to BBC with BT crew. Took forever to get seated and just about to bail when table was ready. Music was good and food OK.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Undertrained and injured.

Event comments:

See you next year.
