Pre-race routine:

I hung out with the family -- my dad, my uncle, my cousin, and my cousin's wife were all running, and my mom and aunt were there to cheer us on. It was cold and windy outside, but I'd decided to run in a short-sleeved shirt and shorts. That worked out well during the race but I was freezing until then. Good thing the mall was open for everyone to keep warm. I had a cup of coffee but no food before the race.
Event warmup:

Nothing.

Comments:

This was my first race since April, and my running's been pretty shoddy -- partly from laziness, and partly from plantar fascitis, which I've been trying to shake all year. The bad news is my time suffered a lot. I was a good 3 1/2 minutes slower this year than last year, but that's to be expected, since I was training pretty intensely for a marathon last year. Still, I didn't think I'd be *that* slow. The good news is that the foot didn't bug me at all. It was a tiny bit sore later in the day, but hardly noticeable.
What would you do differently?:

Run more than 15 miles a week.
Post race
Warm down:

I grabbed a bottle of water and settled at the finish line to cheer in the rest of the family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

A fun local turkey trot! It was great to do it with the whole family. The mood is super family-friendly and relaxed and the event is organized very well. My cousin and his wife ran with their two kids in a jogging stroller and they said the race would probably be better with a separate wave for the strollers -- they were worried about getting in people's way and felt like they had to be super careful. But the strollers didn't bother me. I like having all of the kids and families running together. It's not like I'm going to take a turkey trot all that seriously.
