Swim
Comments: Started up near front. Middle left. Rough start with some pretty heavy contact but eventually things settled down and I focused on keeping a good, relaxed tempo. Felt relaxed and in control most of the swim. Very happy with my time as I exited the water and looked at my watch. Swimming is not my strength so I had put in a lot of time in the pool during training. Felt like all those yards paid off. What would you do differently?: Maybe up my tempo/effort just a bit. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty smooth here. Had some trouble getting wetsuit sleeve over my Garmin. Felt kind of spastic as I looked for my bike gear bag. Sat in chair outside of tent. Put on tri top, arm warmers, socks, shoes, helmet, race belt and off I went. What would you do differently?: Have better idea where bike gear bag is located. Bike
Comments: Ride was very challenging due to the strong head and crosswinds. My plan was to start easy and increase effort each lap. Had to fight urge to go harder due to the wind. Stuck with my planned watts for each lap even though the wind was killing my time goal. Focused on staying aero and taking in calories as planned. Tough ride and I was glad when it was over. What would you do differently?: Go harder when the wind was at my back going up the Beeline. Transition 2
Comments: Again I found a chair outside the tent entrance. An awesome volunteer pulled my socks off as I grabbed my stuff out of bag. Put on dry socks, shoes, hat and gel flask and I was gone. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Stomach felt funny as I started run but settled down within first couple of miles. I was on the hunt for any male with 45-49 on his calf. I was running strong and passing a bunch of people but no 45-49. I thought that they must all be some bad ass runners or they were all wearing compression socks. First 1/2 of run was great. Started to fade about mile 15 and had to dig deep to hold on. Finally saw and passed some 45 - 49 calfs in the last couple of miles. Very glad when I got to hang a left towards the finish line rather than take a right for another loop. Overall a very good race for me. It was my 2nd ironman (did Louisville last year)and I feel like executed my race plan well. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Gave it all I had on the run. Probably will adjust some things in training to build more endurance so I do not fade in latter stages of run. Post race
Warm down: Food. Event comments: Great race. Great volunteers. I will be back next year. Last updated: 2010-11-27 12:00 AM

Slept great and phone alarm woke me up at 3:30am (or so I thought). Quick hot shower then went downstairs, started the coffee, looked at my watch and discovered it was actually 1:30am. My phone was still on GA time. Laughed out loud and ran upstairs to wake-up wife (April) to tell her what I had done. She did not think it was as funny as I did and told me to leave her alone and go back to sleep.
Knew I was not going to get back to sleep so went downstairs, ate that little box of Wheaties that came in the race bag. Then I just relaxed on the couch with my feet up and listened to music on Ipod until the real 3:30am came around.
The rest of the morning was uneventful. 3:30am finally showed up. I dressed, ate and got my stuff ready. We were staying in a condo about 1/2 mile from transition so started walking to transition with April at about 5:15.
No real warmup other than the short swim to start line once you jumped in water.
