Swim
Comments: A solid swim for me, despite some problems getting goggles adjusted - had to stop a couple times to fix. Finished 3rd overall on the swim leg. I love the time trial start format at this event - makes things much less congested; why don't more races do this? I like that they moved the timing mat from the T1 entrance to the swim exit - makes for more accurate swim splits. What would you do differently?: Fix my damn goggles Transition 1
Comments: This includes an uphill run about about 1/4 mile into T1. And a wetsuit change, so I am ok with this time. Wore arm warmers underneath the wetsuit for the first time - this worked well. What would you do differently?: not much Bike
Comments: Decent bike leg, but honestly I was hoping for a bit faster. My bike speeds seem to have plateaued last spring. Not sure what this means, but I would have really like this to be around 19mph. I felt like I was pushing a strong pace though. Transition 2
Comments: no issues Run
Comments: Meh, me and the run still don't get along great. This was slightly faster than my run pace at Columbia, which I guess I should be happy about. But it is clear I still really need to improve the running if I am going to be competitive at this. Finished the bike leg in 8th overall, but lost a lot of ground in the run, especially the back half to fall to 18th. Post race
Event comments: Yet another frustrating miss at a podium finish. Despite 18th overall I wound up 5th in my age group. In any other age group (older or younger) I would have been top-3. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't worry about things I can't control. This is fast becoming one of my favorite events: time trial start, nice course, well organized, not obscenely expensive, for a good cause, plus it has that cool cancer-survivor vibe going on. I'll be back even though it is not a local race for me any more. Last updated: 2010-12-01 12:00 AM

Standing around shivering. At least I remembered to bring some throwaway shoes & socks this year.
