Swim
Comments: The course maps provided on race website were clearly from last year, as the swim, bike and run course were all different than shown. That being said, swim course was a simple U. Wave dropped into water off boat pier, treaded for a couple minutes, and off we went. Typical swim for me, solid but slow. Biggest surprise of the swim was the appearance of a sandbar approx. 200 meters from the finish that everyone had to run over, drop back into deeper water and swim the remainder. Tough to run in water 18" deep when the heartrate is spiked. Swim time is from my watch, the timing results are all messed up for the swim & T1, virtually incomprehensible. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was overall good. Timing results indicate a 12 minute T1, which is not possible. T1 time unknown. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Forerunner 305, other participants and Slowtwitch forum threads confirm this course was long. Garmin logged 27.91 miles, and I've heard 27-28 miles from others. Taking the long course into account, time was very good for me and a big improvement from last year. 21.0mph avg, mode average was 22.4mph. First race with aero helmet and HED Jet 60's. It's definitely a fast course. Legs felt dead throughout most of bike, though. Not sure why, but it was a recovery week so perhaps too much rest? What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: This felt like a faster transition time than it turned out to be. A little bit too much time lost getting race belt and miscellaneous squared away. What would you do differently?: Run with race belt to run start line. Run
Comments: Best run I've had yet in an Olympic distance triathlon. Steadily improving although much to go yet. Legs felt good through first 3 miles, and then fatigue began to set in. Frankly, I think some of it's mental as the mind constantly wants to stop and sit in a nice chair with some lemonade. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on brick workouts, and improve performance steadily. Post race
Warm down: Nothing. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. Event comments: Set a PR for the Olympic distance, finally had a decent race through all three disciplines. Great event, Leon's enthusiasm is infectious. Particularly nice he was at the finish shaking the hand of everyone who finished. I'll be back again next year. Last updated: 2010-12-05 12:00 AM

Up at 5:00 am, toast breakfast. 35 min drive to race, set-up transition, began hydrating with First Endurance and 1/4 scoop of Pre-Race one hour before start.
Stretched, nothing more.
