  • Comments: I think for my first tri, and as a warm up to the half Ironman and full Ironman later this summer it was a good start. I know what I need to improve, and it is within the realm of possibility to improve in the time I have left.

  • Comments: Lack of aid stations on the run was an issue. There was poor planning by the race director not to have stations between miles 2.5-5. Also, the new run course this year was poorly laid out including a run through the Cargill processing plant which smelled very badly. The previous run course from years past was much better. I hope future races return to the other course. If not, I will never run this race again.

  • Comments: I rated the race a 4 mostly due to it being the Best of the US Amateur race, not Leons. The bike was not as fast or fun as I'd hoped, nor scenic, there were crappy roads and, well, it was stinky in the industrial area. I had a blast with Cathleen, Brian and my hubby. The weather sucked (nobody controls that) and it would have been fun to hang out and have that beer I earned (but was too frozen to drink) afterwards. It was awesome to be "kind of a big deal" and hang out with some seriously speedy peeps at the race, and be left in their dust on race day! I highly recommend doing a BOUS race if you qualify!!!

  • Comments: Great production and event organization. Not my favorite bike course. I'm still waiting for the official email from USAT, but I'm pretty sure I qualified for nationals with this one. This has been a goal since last summer, so if I made it, I'll be pretty stoked. I've always enjoyed tri's, but the drive to make nationals took a little bit of the fun out of it for me because, frankly, I was stressing and fearing putting the work in and not making the goal. If I've made it, I'll be thrilled, and I feel like I'll be able have a lot more fun with it again.

  • Comments: I was a bit upset about the changes in the last week of the race. I feel they could have been communicated better and earlier. Making the packet pickup mandatory at the last minute was not fair. This race had always allowed same day packet pickup in the past. Making this change at the last minute was not fair to the out of towners. Closing transition down a half hour before the first wave and a full hour before the last wave, especially on a cold day when a proper warm-up is essential, was a bad call. Further, this was not communicated to the racers until race day. I would have brought another pair of running flats I could have kept outside of transition had I known. There were no race instructions in the packet that should have contained important information like above. There weren't as many flats this year, but I still saw quite a few racers off the side of the road. I just don't see paying $165 for this race again. I've done this race three years now, I think

  • Comments: I'm proud that I did it & finished based on the conditions and my mental state before the race. I know the conditions sucked, but it's still a disheartning to see that I was 8 minutes slower this year as compared to last year -- when it was my second triathlon ever! My swim really needs to be better. I know you can't win it on a swim. But my swim really does suck. And I know my bike is pretty good, but I wanna average at least 20. And I wanna learn to figure out how to push myself harder on the bike. I wanna my bike & wheels & helmet to be worth the money i spent. I did way better on the run that I thought i did. I'd like to get it down to 8:30 or under. But it didn't feel like I was doing an 8:38 pace. And no garbage guts for the first time ever.

  • Comments: "Leon" and the rest of the crew put on an amazing race and an amazing production. There was plenty of spectator support, town support, and ameneties down to the awesome pro-style finish shoot. I would not hesitate to recommend this race to anyone. Just top-notch all the way around.

  • Comments: Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to race on, and a better group of people to race with. Beat my race time goals by 4 minutes -- did every single thing faster than I projected. Not too shabby for less than 24 hours since my last race, and about 6 hours of sleep! The only thing about the day that was a negative was I saw several folks who flatted on the course, all of them on Cline Ave. It's awesome to have a closed highway to race on, but it's showing some wear and tear from NWI winters. The people who flatted that I noticed all looked to me like they had serious bikes, and I wonder if they were on ultralight tubes and tires, and paying a price for it. I started pointing down at the potholes as I came across them, to hopefully warn people behind me about the hazards, but I don't know that it would have helped anyone going very fast.

  • Comments: I beat my previous best by three minutes set back in May. My swim times and run times have come down a ton since last year. I've got a lot of biking planned for June leading into Muncie 70.3. If I can maintain my swim and run, and increase my bike fitness, then I'm looking great to finish my first 70.3. As to why I rated the race a three: 1. The cost is above average. 2. There are WAY TOO MANY FLATS! I flatted last year as did many others. This year it seemed even worse. I avoided a flat this year, but many other riders were not as lucky. I hate to see a rider having to walk in his bike because of a flat. Granted, they should fix their flats and keep moving. . . but it really does ruin your race.

  • Comments: Oh, and I chased down Mike Ademle for a quick comment and a picture. He was really nice and even made sure to ask me a couple of personal questions. I know he was busy and had everyone trying to stop and get a picture with him. He was still accomodating and tried to connect with people. Ok peeps, bring on the comments.

  • Comments: Set a PR for the Olympic distance, finally had a decent race through all three disciplines. Great event, Leon's enthusiasm is infectious. Particularly nice he was at the finish shaking the hand of everyone who finished. I'll be back again next year.

  • Comments: Never got an official time. 1/3 of participants did not get a swim time. Results were reported for my bib number might be correct, but had the wrong name from someone who was 24, so they left in a different wave. My name didn't even show up anywhere, so I have no record of my first triathlon.

  • Comments: Overall, this is a very good race and I'm sure that much was learned from this year that will carry over into next year. I was only disappointed by a couple of minor things: the event was billed as having a "military jet fly-over" which never happened. Not too surprised by that, but would have been better to not set any expectations on that. There were no trash cans anywhere to be found. How does that happen? No trash cans outside the port-o-potties to throw away your paper towels used to dry your hands, no trash cans around transtion to toss out empty water bottles. What's up with that? The results took forever to be posted on-line and there is no direct link to them from the Leon's web site. Some things that are great about this race: bike course, custom-built bike racks, parking was great, organization of race was great, Leon personally welcoming each participant back to the finish line was a great personal touch. Really fun race and will do again next year.
