Swim
Comments: I had a nice swim. It was fun and I felt good in the water. Of course I always wish I was faster, but it was fun. I passed one swimmer in front on my but there were no problems at all doing so. I wasn't out of breath afterward and it was a good warm-up for the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing, great swim. Transition 1
Comments: Don't know my split, but knew I went fast. I cut through the grass to get to my transition. I didn't put anything on (some people were putting on long sleeved shirts and drying off) except my shoes and helmet. I was off. I passed two people who got out of the water ahead of me, so I guess that's a good sign. Getting on my bike was a little bumpy, went to the side and almost crashed. Not sure what happened there, but once I got going I was fine. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it was a fast transition. I wish I knew my time. Bike
Comments: Really fun bike! The crosswinds were not fun to deal with, but that's why I train in Kansas, to race in Kansas. I kept having to remind myself to "power through" on my cadence and get the full force all the way through. I couldn't find my sweet spot on the bike. I didn't get passed too badly so that was a good feeling. There were so many high priced bikes there, it just goes to show "It's not about the bike." What would you do differently?: I felt like I was on a typical Saturday ride; I should've gone harder. Transition 2
Comments: No splits were kept for the transition, but I had a pretty quick one. Not much to worry about except for putting on my shoes and grabbing my hat. I had taken a GU at the end of the bike so I felt I had enough energy. I wish there would have been some water at transition to grab on the way out. There were a bunch of spectators talking to the athletes just out of the water while I was trying to get out of transition, so that was a bit annoying. GET OUT OF MY WAY! I wanted to scream. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it was a fast transition, despite the annoying talkers in the way. Run
Comments: Only one water station on the run. If I would've known that I would've taken two waters. The course was more than rolling hills. I just took my time getting up the hills in shortened my stride. Half way through the run I was feeling great and picked up my speed a bit to catch the running in front of me. I used the down hills to gain some speed and kept a good pace going up the hills. What would you do differently?: I think I was a little conservative on my pace since I didn't know what to expect or how much the race before was going to bring me down later in the race. After the race, I had enough energy to run around with Ellie in the field, so apparently I had more to give. Post race
Warm down: Ran around the track once and kept moving for a bit by playing with Ellie in the field. Stretched out a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not knowing what to expect from my body. I held back a bit because I didn't know how my legs would do after the race. I should've just trusted that I rested enough and gone full blast. Event comments: Fun race! Everyone is very helpful and nice, and the participants are all low key too. It would've been nice to get our transition times. There were no bib numbers which I felt strange about. The transition area was open to anyone which made for annoying onlookers standing around when you were trying to get in and out. It would've been nice to have more water stations, at least one at transtion out for the run. The Emporia Track Team volunteered and were helpful with directions, but there was only one aid station on the run. The results were done quickly and it was easy to get in and out of the area which is always nice. The awards were cool, they were picture frames, where each winner gets to go online and get a free race picture. All in all, if you just have fun at this race and/or it's your first Tri, it's a really fun time. Thanks to them for putting it on, I'll be back. Last updated: 2006-03-03 12:00 AM

Finished packing my equipment. Ate my usual breakfast right before we left for the 1 and half hour drive. Got there right when transition opened at 7:30. Set-up my transition area easily since there wasn't much to include. Sat with Trent and Ellie in the car and watched other participants arrive.
Did a quick .5 mile run around the track and swam an easy 300.
