Packed up the family and left the hotel at about 5:30. Got to the race site got my chip, body marked and set up my bike in transition.
Event warmup:

No warm-up talked to family and some of the other racers. Was nice and relaxed felt no pressure just using this race as a warm-up for IM TX.

Comments:

Didn't hurry took my time. Asked my daughters how I was doing they said I was one of the first ones in my wave out of the water.
Bike
  • 2h 22m 30s
  • 56 miles
  • 23.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Started off easy got into a groove. The way out was nice as there was a little tailwind. Moved through bikers fairly easy until about mile 30 when I got passed by the the only person on my ride. About the same time I came upon some open guys and younger ag'ers riding in a pace line. I passed them and they grabbed onto my wheel. i decided to lift my pace a little even though I was trying to simulate an IM ride and when I looked back a couple of miles down the road there was nobody left so I settled back down for the last 15 miles or so trying to keep a nice even tempo into headwind home.

Comments:

6+ min pr on the run. Found that comfortable place where I can run all day and put it into cruise control. A couple of the open guys passed me but for once I was passing people, nice feeling. I even passed the guy who passed me on the bike, even better feeling. ( nice guy I think he won his ag). Running up to the finish line caught my family napping had to yell over to wake them up for a little cheering. (Didn't think I'd be in for another 15-25 mins).
What would you do differently?:
