Swim
Comments: The water is very shallow except for the middle 150 making it possible to walk all but that portion. I got stuck behind a couple of folks who did just that and couldn't get passed because folks actually swimming streamed around us. Once I got clear of them, I made up some time in the water. What would you do differently?: Not get stuck behind walkers. Maybe have started a little wider. Transition 1
Comments: Bike was racked at the far end of transition from both the swim out and bike out. It was a long way back. Fortunately, prior waves were already out on course so there wasn't a lot of traffic to fight through. Bike
Comments: Had some serious bike envy of some of those whipping past me. Felt like I standing still half of the time. Oh, and the first halk of the bike was demoraling because everyone passing me came from a later wave - dang numbers of calves. Had to get refocused on the fact that this was about exercise and accomplishing something not racing. Saw my wife, mom, brother, and sister-in-law at the turnaround and that got me going again, that God for family. What would you do differently?: I have to spend a lot more time in the saddle. A very wet spring and a month leading up to the race where we literally had one week night that we weren't chasing the kids to something didn't help. Transition 2
Comments: Whoa nelly, doesn't matter how many shorter bricks I did, nothing prepped for the feeling of my feet hitting the ground again. The was a portolet just outside of transition and I had to wait a good minute or more to access it. Don't know what the prior guy was doing! What would you do differently?: Better bike fitness. Run
Comments: The first part fo the run, although generally flat, was a long, gentle uphill. I have never been a very good runner so this was tough. The course took a turn onto a river front trail and another clyde and I were struggling. I looked at him and said, "see those light posts, walk two, run four?" That's what we did all the way back except for the last 1/4 mile. Seeing my wife and kids at the finish felt like a wind at my back and it pushed me home. What would you do differently?: I need to increase run fitness but I hate running so I guess I need to drop some more weight to take some of the stress off. Post race
Warm down: Walked, water, kept moving. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training during May when the kids were keeping us too busy. Event comments: This was my first race so I don't have anything to compare it to but everything seemed good to me. The swim is obviously a little, well, "light". I have to carve out some more training time this summer and find one more race to do later in the year. Last updated: 2010-12-22 12:00 AM

Walked my bike into the park, parking was across the street, found my spot in transition, set up. Walked the area to see if I knew anyone.
Jogged over to the outhouse, it was forever away.
