Overall Rank = 565/623
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 69/72
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45am, had a banana with peanut butter, espresso and 1/2 cup oatmeal. Left the house about 5:45am and arrived at race site about 6:30am
Event warmup:

Walked around and spoke to the volunteers and racers. About 20 min before my wave started I went on a warmup swim.
Swim
  • 08m 47s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Mobile Bay was shallow so it was more of an aqua jog then a swim. I think I swam about 100yds total. Everyone was bunched up in a group jogging so it was no point to try and swim. Rounding the bouy was a bumper to bumper jam.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the outside so I could swim and not jog.
Transition 1
  • 04m 10s
Comments:

T1 was good. I thought T1 time started at the entrance of the transition area but it was just after we pulled out of the water. Had about 100-150yd jog to transition entry. Took a gel before heading out on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Wait to take the gel when on the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 52s
  • 18 miles
  • 16.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride, did not push to hard because I knew the run was my weakest part so far due to the amount of running i have done in the last 2 months because of injury.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a little harder on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 43s
Comments:

Take my gel the last 1/2 mile of the ride. I was supposed to take the gel before the run, but I forgot. Took sometime to put on socks, so I was rushing.
What would you do differently?:

Will start trying to run sockless.
Run
  • 47m 37s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 15m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Went I left transition I was feeling good, but I started to run and my chest would start to hurt and it was hard to breathe. I would try to run every so often but it would last for about 100 yds and the chest would start hurting again. I hit every water station and took a few sips of water and poured the rest over my head. Dont know what happened on this race, my heart rate felt really fast.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get back to a daily routine on running since legs are feeling better.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and had water, powerade and apple.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was happy with all the sports except for the run. I knew I would be slow on the run and I was looking at around 35-37minutes, but it turned out to be 47min. Needed to push a little more on the bike.

Event comments:

The race was well organized and the volunteers were great and there was plenty of them.
