Swim
Comments: So-so swim. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't anything to be proud of either. Transition 1
Comments: 17/94 in my AG and 152/809 overall. This was a good transition, but it could have been better. What would you do differently?: Learn to leave my shoes on my pedals and do flying mounts and dismounts. Bike
Comments: I held back a little on the bike, because I knew my training was not adequate the last few months. In spite of this, it was still a little challenging. To allow for the inadequate training, I tried to hold my effort level at about what I did at IMFL last year. What would you do differently?: Find a way to train more. Transition 2
Comments: 6/94 in my AG, and 34/809 overall. This was a great transition! The only way I could possibly go faster is if I learn to leave my shoes on the pedals and do flying mounts and dismounts. What would you do differently?: Learn how to leave my shoes on the pedals. Run
Comments: It was extremely hot during the run. The temperature hit 97 degrees by the time I finished. Because of my lack of training this year, I guessed at what pace I could maintain for the distance. I came up 2 miles short. At about mile 11, I hit the wall hard. I came to a stand still, and could barely put one foot in front of the other. I struggled through the last miles to finish with the slowest run split of the 3 HIM's I've done. What would you do differently?: Find a way to train more. Post race
Warm down: Sit in a kiddie pool at the finish and walk around. What limited your ability to perform faster: Inadequate training. Event comments: This is still one of the best organized races I've done. I'll be back next year with more training behind me, and prepared to set a new PR at this distance.
