Swim
Comments: The swim was horrible. My goggles kept fogging up leaving me practically blind. Also the water was freezing which took me a while to get into a groove but each time I did my goggles fogged leaving me having to stop and rinse them with water. This happened about 5 times which just sucked to no end. What would you do differently?: Buy anti-fogging solution or new goggles. Really sucked. Transition 1
Comments: Had to change into my biking shirt which sucked and added unnecessary time. What would you do differently?: Buy a freaking race belt...... Bike
Comments: Kicked major ass on the first 24.45 miles averaging 20.88 mph but then I hit the strong head winds and the hills in Pendleton just crushed me with the high winds. People with tri bikes definitely had an advantage in areo form to avoid the high winds but with my road bike I was left eating some major wind. What would you do differently?: Well probably need to invest in a tri bike. Also need to re-fit my road bike. I was having neck problems before the race but nothing during. Transition 2
Comments: Had to remove my bike shirt and put on a tri top for the run. All my sweat made it stick. What would you do differently?: Invest in a race belt. Had to move the numbers from the back for the bike and front for the run. Instead of spending $20 I decided to wear two different shirts. Dumbass..... Run
Comments: Tore it up on the run. Had lots of energy to push myself and felt a little weak by mile 9 but easily pushed through it. Passed a crap load of people on the run. Its amazing how a crappy swim and ok bike means nothing when you get to the run if you don't have the legs then your getting schooled. What would you do differently?: Nothing felt amazing on the run and got enough refreshments to cool and re-fuel. If I can improve my swim and bike I'll easily get a new PR. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Fogging goggles. No tri bike. No race belt. Event comments: Had an amazing race even with negatives. I felt super strong and wonderful after the race vs. the first HIM I did. I trained harder and it really showed in my run leg at the end. Had some hang ups which kept out of the PR game but I'm really happy with my performance and truly had a lot of fun out there. It sucks training for so long. I remember thinking at week 14 of 18 why the hell am I doing this. The excessive training actually made it lose its fun value but seeing how strong I was goes to show that it definitely paid off. Not too much. It was really early and cold.
Just a little walking to the start.
