Pre-race routine:

Arrived at hotel at jsut after 8pm Friday after driving from Killeen. I got up at 4am. Took shower, shaved, got wife up. Had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast and cytomax sports drink and cup of coffee. Got to event sight at 0530am in time to spot bike on outside position on rack. Wife helped get gear to transition area. Kids still in Hotel. I ate half a power bar in small bites over 30 minutes. Set up transition area and brought small folding stool. Drank some more cytomax. Felt pretty good. Thought I had reconned entire sight for all time clock points of exit and entrance. Didnt figure fatigue would cause loss of focus. Weight was good came to race at around 218lbs
Event warmup:

Prior to 730am race meeting took a small slow run for 10 minutes. Once I got close to my swim I took 1 lap in warmup lane felt pretty good for 1st triathlon sactioned event. I sat down at pool area to conserve energy until about 15 swimmers from my jump in number 322. Probably should have seated my swim time much higher because from 7minutes to 5:50 or so because I passed at least 10 swimmer in pool.

What would you do differently?:

Seat myself higher than 7minutes for 300m. Had to dolphin between two swimmers traveling in opposite directions. Thanks open water swim. Also had to walk in shallow end slower swimmer got out of way.

Probably should drink more water than just sports drinks next time. Need a good mix.

Add more water to hydration plan.

Well not do race again. My bike is too expensive to put through that kind of ringer again and I dont make enough money to take a chance. QR Kilo 05.

Probably have multifuel hydration system set up to add water to mix.

Comments:

Took water bottle to shower in before run and had running hat in ice cooler. That cold hat felt good for about 15 minutes then had to remove do to overheating. Didn't make timing mat as expected. Had to be redirected to right timing mat. At this time I was not thinking clearly.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster and push myself harder through pain.

Use the fuel belt wife bought me. Train with it more. Check for timing mats .
Post race
Warm down:

Drank and ate. Had a orange and banana and protein bar. Race had baked potatoes for contestants but did not eat them because I haven't been eating starches like that.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did not drink enough water replaced with energy drinks instead should have equal mix next time.

Event comments:

Will not participate again in this race. The road is too rough to enjoy bike segment. Overall race was good and ran well.

Course: Course was smooth. Should of used my fuel belt to keep my self hydrated up to turn around point. Lips were dry and got cramps in side just before half way point. Have to stop walking so much.
