  • Comments: Fair race. It was close to home and an early sprint distance. I want to get a few early races under my belt before the longer race I have planned this summer. The bike course was really rough and the post-race festivities were lacking. But the volunteers were FANTASTIC. They were posted everywhere and were awesome.

  • Comments: Three items need improvement (2 for me / 1 for race) 1. Improve T1/T2. Based on missteps, I would estimate I lost 25-30 seconds to the 1st/2nd place guys by not practicing for T1/T2 2. Know the course....I could blame the RD, but it is ultimately my responsibility. The real issue was I ran a portion in warm up and the sign was pointed one way...during the race it wasn't there and people were running two different ways....I took to way the sign was originally pointed, but I guessed wrong. based on my ave time and my garmin time I lost 2:00 3. RD needs to have cones or signs (to be honest painted arrows on the ground (especially when there are orange and blue and they go in different directions) doesn't work when you have been pushing hard for an hour. Final comment, improve run direction and T1/T2 and I feel like I would have challenged for 1st. I always said I wouln't practice transisiton until I was a minute out of placing....it appears that day has come.

  • Comments: Rate a 3 bc I don't have another tri to rate it against. It was nothing like I had in mind. I was thinking it would be more like the 5k's and Half's I have done. Probably won't be back to this one.

  • Comments: They messed up the awards. I am a member of the cain center wich is who put on the race. This year they decided to give an award to the fastes member. When they did that it kicked us out of the age group awards wich it wasn't supposed to do. The member thing was a bonus. So I talked to them after the awards because they forgot to even give the cain center awards out. They also messed up on the age groups. I didn't hag around for that mess something about cuting off age groups at 60 or 65 IDK. It was a mess. The lady in charge has never even been in a triathlon. When we talked to her she was real nice just didn't know enogh to run a race.

  • Comments: A huge thanks to everyone in the Manatee group for getting me through the last 6 weeks. I've been so frustrated and depressed over my IT Band. The group kept me positive and supported me through it and now I'm not only running but racing. Very excited to be able to really run for the first time in 8 weeks due to my IT Band Injury. Overall I had a fun day and am thrilled everything went so well. I killed my PR for a sprint distance triathlon and brought home an age group medal. I am looking forward to IM TX 70.3 in April and I am still committing to Ironman Texas in May 2014!

  • Comments: Well organized and plenty of volunteers. Good timing company that posted results online immediately. Guys at work went online Monday morning after the race and found photos already posted. Though I'm not a big fan of chip seal, I'll do this one again.

  • Comments: I won the younger half of the Clydesdale division by about 15 minutes. The guy who won the 40+ Clydesdales went 1:09:39, so I was the fastest Clydesdale overall. I think this will probably be one of the last races I do as a clyde, as I'm teetering around 200lbs right now.

  • Comments: Great venue for a race, but the bike course just plain sucks. It's one thing to have a challenging course, but the bike course is just not any fun. Unless they find a different course to take the bikes, I'll only be back as a volunteer.

  • Comments: I enjoyed the race. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to completing many more and my goal is to do an Olympic this year. I wasn't the fastest, but I was satisfied because I felt like I built a good base to improve from. Racing certainly shows you were you need to improve.

  • Comments: Everything was great at this race except the road conditions. Riding on chip seal is no fun at all. I don't think I'll ever ride that same course again. Also, the reason the events weren't on time was because the ambulance wasn't there yet. I am glad Jack is so concerned with safety. I wouldn't want to start the race without the ambulance there!!! Oh, and there was still some guy in the top 10 that didn't know how to swim! We counted, and he got passed by 25 people in the water! He was dog paddling on the 3rd lap. I really thought Jack would jump in and pick him up out of the water (as he warned of this in the pre-race meeting). Everyone was aggrivated at the swimmer. I even saw someone (who shall remain nameless) swim right over him because he wouldn't get out of the way.

  • Comments: Race packet said check in for transition would be 5:30 a.m. It was not. volunteers on site said 6 a.m., but even then it was late. Swim start was late but due to late arrival of EMT's and race director's concern for athletes' safety.

  • Comments: SUMMARY I feel really good about my performance. It was a solid effort. I have a long way to go, but I can leave this race saying I performed better than expected in each segment of the race. This was the first race that not a single person at any point in the race passed me and stayed ahead of me. And the only time anyone passed me was when I crashed and made a wrong turn on the bike. In both of those situations, I came back to soundly sail by my passers. No one ever challenged me. It was a pure race against myself. Of course, this doesn't mean I won. In the end, I finished 50th out of about 290 people, 48th in my gender. The key takeaways from this race are as follows: practice sighting in the water, practice transitions, spend more time on the bike and spend more time in my Newtons. As a side note, some manufacturer really needs to develop a legitimate triathlon/multisport watch with heart rate and a running/cycling computer and GPS. I am frustrated that I can only use my Polar

  • Comments: I was VERY, VERY shocked to see I got 3rd place in my AG. Considering how slow I was on the bike, and the TERRIBLE run...I was hoping at best I just didn't place last. I can't remember if there were 12 people in my AG or not...I thought I counted at the event on those results, and I really can't tell on the online searchable results. The number 12 sticks out for some reason...I'll change it later if needed. Like I said, I was glad I did decide to go. It was nice to finally meet people in person. This was the first triathlon of the season for me...and the first triathlon after the start of the big D. It was good for me to get out there and do it, even though I felt soooo unprepared. It was good to meet Brittany...see Clint and Gina at the dinner...and see the other club members. Chauncy won it...and I was glad for him - he is a good kid, and a very talented athlete...and very humble. Speaking to him you would never guess he was as good as he was. I also realized

  • Comments: My biggest beef was the swim, but I dont have a solution from and organizer standpoint. Folks just shouldn't double pass. The swim really felt like a free for all. Other than that the race was really well put together. I have heard Jacks races are good anf they were right.

  • Comments: Not a PR course like most of Jack's races. I did it a few years ago before Jack took over and it was very disorganized. That's not an issue with Jack's races. But oh, the bike course, it was tough. I don't foresee the highway department doing anything but more chipseal around the loop. Logistically I don't know what they can do. I love Jack and his races, but that was suck. No complaints about the swim or run. And I love getting tech shirts for a sprint. Much better than a cheap single color cotton shirt that some "other race organizers" give out that end up in the garage as work towels.

  • Comments: I thought it was well run. The Cain Center folks had things nicely done and plenty of food for us, that was really nice. The race in general was well done, but I don't think I like dealing with that much chip seal for a sprint...do it again--I don't know, it was fun, but we'll see how close I live to Athens come next year. I might want to just to get revenge on it from the cold and bike this year, we'll see! Bottom line is--I'm a TRIATHLETE now thanks to this race, so it will ALWAYS have a place in my athlete heart. :) Haha! Glad to cut my teeth on this one, and with all the different trials that went with such a cold race, it can only get better! Bring on the Lonestar 1/4 Iron!

  • Comments: This is the part where I commend Jack and Ironhead Race Productions. I hear people complain about Jack, but he is concerned about safety first. And he may be irritable, but he always puts on a great, well-run race. However, if they continue the chipseal on Loop 7 any further, they'll need to find another bike course.
