Swim
Comments: water was warmer today...combo of cold air temps and Jo's better coverage wetsuit! Found my groove pretty easily, sighted and corrected well, and took advantage of the current on the second half. This was a good swim for me! :-) What would you do differently?: stay tighter to the buoys, sight a bit more...the current and chop pushed me a tiny bit off course a couple times, but not much else. Transition 1
Comments: very slow getting into shoes. It was pretty cold and I didn't practice on Friday or Saturday as planned. Still (as always) need to improve here. What would you do differently?: practice more consistently, maybe do the wetsuit in the water next time Bike
Comments: Not my best day in the saddle. :( Garmin multisport is evil. It never seems to work for me! It took me to the first turn to get it reset on bike so I could get watts on my display. Needless to say with the crappy mount and soft peddling it cost me some time. Then when I saw watts I started to push for the zone Bonnie prescribed for me, but my groin would pull, so I'd have to back off. Very frustrating. As was the brake cable rubbing the crank! It didn't help that the wind was mostly a cross/head wind and that after the sprint racers entered the course it was crowded and hard to pass at times. What would you do differently?: I need to figure out how to work my garmin in auto sport or not use that feature. Not have a wimpy groin muscle to make me back off the bike! I think I did ok considering the traffic of the racers and weather conditions, but not the bike split I am capable of. I've raced a half at 21mph...this should have been faster especially considering the flat course. Transition 2
Comments: I lost my right shoe at the dismount line and hollered to my Fraser Peeps to get my shoe! Turns out the fabulous BT'r Kellie Korce got it back to my transition area for me! :) That slowed me down a tad, but not too much. I got another abdominal cramp like I have in the past when bending over to put on my shoes. :( I had to take a moment to wipe all the grass off my feet before putting on the socks. What would you do differently?: not lose the shoe, not mess with the grass, not cramp. At least I did run out with my hat and belt instead of putting them on in transition! Run
Comments: Coach yelled to me to make each mile faster, but both times in the wooded area I slowed some. I wanted to break 54:00 but this is a new pr pace for me, and I almost negative split. Walked at the turnaround to take a gu and drink some water, but otherwise ran through aid stations. What would you do differently?: I think I could have pushed this run a bit harder a bit longer. BUT, I am quite happy with it. My feet were numb for the first 1.5 miles, my mouth was shut for most of it (waved at instead of cheering my friends and teammates) and once I saw I could break 2:30 on the clock, I busted my butt to make that time! Which tells me I had a bit of gas left in the tank. ;) Post race
Warm down: Ranger was right there when I finished, so we got some water and went to get our t1 bag and bikes, and recovery drinks from our cars. Pretty much just walked to cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: groin issues on the bike, needing to improve my pacing( and confidence) on the run, limited t1 and t2 practice Event comments: I <3 racing Motor City! I love knowing it will be the social event of the tri season. I love cheering and being cheered by teammates and friends out on the course. I love that it's a flat and fast. I love hanging out afterwards on the grass, getting caught up with folks. Most of Team Green shows up to race and I always see my Greyhound and BT buddies! It is SOOOO MUCH FUN to race with friends. Love Love Love! Last year I was 11th overall female in the sprint, and this year I was 11th overall female in the oly. My time was a pr at the distance and I had a really good run for me which was a pr too! I know the cooler temps helped, but it gives me hope my run is heading in the right direction! :) Happy! Had multigrain oatmeal today with a banana and coffee. Had every thing packed except my fluids so it was an easy exit this am.
Met up with Jules, Tex and Pammy to do our warm up. Ran first for about 10 minutes with a few pick ups, set up t2, then rode to the beach with a couple pick ups, set up t1 and socialized. Never got in the drink before my wave. It was windy and cold!
