Pre-race routine:

Did not sleep well. and was very far from my normal routine. Felt sleepy right up until the start. Got up at 3 AM and ate breakfast of cereal and drank two diet cherry Pepsis on the way to the race. Picked of Mark Swan on the way in Knightdale as he was volunteering. Got to the site about 6:15AM. Got bodymarked and set up transition. Guy next to me had set up a humongous towel (I am not sure why).
Event warmup:

Ran about a mile, biked 2.4 miles, and swam 200 meters.
Swim
  • 35m 25s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought it went well but felt a little tight in my shoulders. I was 8:13 faster than last year!
What would you do differently?:

I have not got a clue except get fitter.
Transition 1
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

It was a long run from the water to the rack. I had lots of debris on my feet from all the grass. Had trouble getting my suit off as both legs got stuck on my heels and had to use my hands. Since I was riding sockless I made sure my feet were clean before putting on my cycling shoes. 2 seconds slower than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Practice taking my suit off more
Bike
  • 1h 22m 34s
  • 27.96 miles
  • 20.32 mile/hr
Comments:

My lower right back was a getting tight as the ride went on. It was hard to stay aero. However, I was only past by 3 people and past a lot of people. 3:08 faster than last year!
What would you do differently?:

Not get a stiff back.
Transition 2
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

Took too long. I had trouble getting my hat on and took some nutrition.
What would you do differently?:

Think I need to practice transitions a little more.
Run
  • 1h 04m 49s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

This did not go well. From the get go I felt like I needed to take a dump. Would have paid a $100 for a big fart to releive the preasure. No luck. Had to walk a bunch more than I wanted to. Even with all that I still was 48 seconds faster than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Lose weight and do more PT.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough sleep!

Event comments:

The race was great. The worst thing was that the route is used by a lot of trucks carrying livestock which smells like decomposing carrion! God it was awful! Despite all the minor issues and not coming close to breaking 3 hours, I still beat my time from last year by 12:17! Very happy with that.

Oh yeah, I had lots or irratation under my arms from my wetsuit. Not enough body glide. The water after the race stung like a ^%@$@*!
