Swim
Comments: I felt very good on the swim. I would not have predicted that good of a time even tho I felt good mostly because there were so many people in my way. But I never stopped swimming freestyle and I could breathe both sides. My 100s are maybe 4 secs better in the pool. It was safer to find an open spot to swim than to try to draft. I did not like that men and women were in the same wave--slow guys were the biggest problem for me. What would you do differently?: Nothing except maybe go out in front and be more aggressive because there were slower people who got in my way. I was 13 out of 31 swimmers in my age group--I don't need to be too shy. Transition 1
Comments: As usual, my worst event. I don't really race the transitions and I know it. Walked from the water to the bike--which was quite long. I didn't kick much in the swim so I knew I was wobbly. Had a tough time getting my wetsuit off. Once I got dressed, I could run with the bike up the hill and out to the mount line. What would you do differently?: This is something I need to practice. But I also need to figure out how much a slower transition helps me get my HR down so that I can perform better? Bike
Comments: I rode well and am pleased with a 19.5 mph average. Felt I had more in me at some points but couldn't take advantage because there were so many people on the course, people cut me off, cars were a little scary. I had no computer so only a vague idea of how fast I was going. I don't know if knowing my pace would have made a difference. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I'm pleased. Transition 2
Comments: Again, could work on this. What would you do differently?: Practice. Run
Comments: Better than I usually do. And better than my first run for the duathlon last week. I went out of transition running but pretty slowly and tried to keep it slow until I got into a zone. Felt good for the whole run--quite hot but fine. Was able to kick it in at the end instead of dragging myself. Very close to puking. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Not much, as usual. What limited your ability to perform faster: Really the limitation was other people getting in my way in the swim and on the bike. Event comments: I liked the race course. It was crazy with 1500 people there and I wish more of our group had done it. I'd certainly do it again even with the bike safety issues. There were huge vehicle back-ups and MN-ans aren't very patient when it comes to their cars. Last updated: 2011-01-29 12:00 AM

Most important was the taper I did. Light workouts from Tuesday on after Sat race. Mostly run and swim since I had lots of bike already. Did 30 min bike and 15 min run the day before.
Got up at 5:15 am, quick shower, usual breakfast of oj, shredded oats, and tea. Got on the road at 6:30 am. Sipped water and had a banana about 1 hr before the start. Had to walk pretty far since we parked on the street. Set up transition and went to get packet, marked etc.Transition set up by race and age group--that was good. Then put my numbers on everything, etc. Just two bathroom stops--good since the lines were insane. Didn't drink as much as usual and went to swim a bit thirsty. Not too many of us there this year. Long-ish pre-race meeting but since it was crowded needed to be thorough. Lubed up and wetsuit and headed to water.
Bathroom, Swam a little bit but that was about it.
