Pre-race routine:

Whey protein shake in morning. Caffeine and sudafed for sinuses. Arrive at race site 90 minutes before start.
Event warmup:

Road the bike @ 1 mile.
Jogged for 10 minutes.
Swam 200m just before being told to line up.
Swim
  • 03m 31s
  • 200 meters
  • 01m 46s / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Tried to do a moving mount at the mount line, but it was an uphill. Had to abandon that and run up to the crest and try again.
Getting shoes on was unusually difficult. Could have had #1 bike split if I'd done this perfectly.
What would you do differently?:

The right gear selection would have allowed a successful mount at the line and gained some time.
Need to practice shoes on the bike a LOT more.
Bike
  • 24m 1s
  • 8.65 miles
  • 21.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Course had 3 tricky turns. Did them well. No water was needed in such a short race.
What would you do differently?:

Must get great at slipping shoes on.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

My transition felt darn fast, yet lots of people beat me. Maybe sprinting harder out of the transition area???
Run
  • 14m 1s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Run went better than I'd hoped in regard to my various aches and pains. No issues from my achilles in my racing flats. Hip flexor and groin pulls were not noticed. Wish I had 1 mile split.
Post race
Warm down:

just gentle walking around and visiting with peeps. No stretching, no extra running, no sitting still.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just that bike mount and shoes.

Event comments:

Race used the Tri-Tats system. Didn't like it. Tats are OK, but they provide STICKERS for a million different things and that's a big pain on the morning of the race. Stickers were even to be stuck to race clothing and raced in! Most of them came off in the water. Big failure.
