Swim
Comments: This was a good swim for me. I knocked 4 minutes off of my last time. I am still pretty slow, but things are improving. What would you do differently?: I really need to do more open water swim practice. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit rippers are awesome!! I think this should be a requirement at every race. What would you do differently?: I tend to take my time in transition, but this is a little ridiculous. Bike
Comments: The first half of my bike was great. I was averaging over 18 miles an hour and felt strong. The second half, mostly the last 25% was really rough. I was tired and experiencing quite a bit of back pain. What would you do differently?: I need to do more long training rides to condition my body. Transition 2
Comments: Still too long. What would you do differently?: Speed up. Run
Comments: The volunteers were wonderful. Everything about the run was great. I felt pretty good the whole way and ran most of the time. What would you do differently?: Just keep practicing. I am going to try and not take walk breaks the next race. Post race
Warm down: Walking to the food tent. :) What limited your ability to perform faster: I am still new to this! I really believe that by next year I will be at or under 6 hours. Event comments: My only complaint is that many of the roads on the bike course weren't closed. This made for some dicey riding at times. Last updated: 2011-02-04 12:00 AM

I arrived at transition about 6:30. The half didn't start until 8:30, but I wanted plenty of time to get there and get set up and see the pros come in from the swim. The morning did not start out well. I wound up with a flat tire in transition because I broke the valve off with my bike pump. I guess if I am going to get a flat, transition before the race is the place to do it. I was still pretty frazzled. After that got sorted out, my husband and I walked to the beach and watched the pros come in from the swim.
No real warm-up, just the walk down the beach.
