Swim
Comments: - see, told you it was chilly. hope you packed your wetsuit. - look down and see the fun lake(sea)weed and mud at the bottom. it looks kinda fun. - there are some fish here! find some feet and let them guide the way. Transition 1
Comments: - put some flip flops at the end of the run chute coming into t1 so the bottoms of your feet are not turned into hamburger. - be sure to cram your wetsuit into that bag! - don't put your shoes into the pedals, you will need them to get out of razor rock field. Bike
Comments: up! over! down! repeat! - this is super pretty countryside. perhaps you should do a little less sightseeing, it is a race afterall. - the uphills will zap most of your momentum, so give it a little more gas on the down hill and if you can't make it, preserve your energy. - there is one really long hill that makes you wish you rode your road bike, but that's all. suck it up buttercup and enjoy the big downhill. you know the one i'm talking about. Transition 2
Comments: - the volunteers will not tell you where the exit to the run chute is until you have passed it and they can laugh at you. Run
Comments: -see the bike comments, that is pretty much the same thing here. a lot of pretty houses. Post race
Warm down: - you have some time to kill as they won't let you in to get your bike until about noon and the t1 bags won't get there until 1 pm. find some shelter if it starts to rain. - the "buffet" is hidden! try to find it! it's like an adventure! What limited your ability to perform faster: meh, wasn't going for speed, just enjoyment. although i did hurry the last 200 yards to make hopewell have to buy me dinner ;) that's what you get for not riding in aero! seriously, the man will crush me next race. Event comments: - the set up may be explained in the 10 page participant book, but you'd think as confusing as this triathlon is that the volunteers would be a little more friendly. - i'm sure if i do it again, it will go more smoothly now that i know what to expect. but of the first time, it just seemed like a big hassle. dear future noz,
if you ever decide to do this race again, please heed this advice.
- bring a vehicle that has a large ground clearance and/or four wheel drive. parking is in giant fields with waist high grass. no joke. pack a machete.
- this thing is a logistical nightmare. two transistions 20 miles away from each other. the shuttles are dodgy and some even get lost. plan to ditch your car at t2 and pray the shuttles will get you to the start on time.
- try to get everything done the day before. oh, and that big bag they give you if to get your stuff from t1 to t2. plan on cramming everything into that bag they give you at registration as they will swoop up everything and take it to t2.
- here's a crazy idea, warm up. most likely that water is very, very chilly.
