Swim
Comments: Started at side of start area and sprinted out to avoid traffic. Definitely helped, no people to deal with, smooth water from the get go. The guy to my left, who was out with me, was not siting the first buoy well, so i lost a little efficiency on the first short leg. Swam along his side pretty tight, hoping to straighten him out. Wish i would have fell in behind and taken his inside course to the buoy. What would you do differently?: I would have started on the left side, not the right. seems like swimmers with poor siting tend to head outside the buoy, not inside... Transition 1
Comments: Don't know my T1 time, as the chips included it with the overall bike time. I forgot to untie my shoes from the warmup run. Also almost dropped my bike while jogging through the out gate. What would you do differently?: Untie shoes. Possible not wear socks, but i was used to socks. Got them on fast, but it's still another 10-15 seconds that could be saved. Bike
Comments: Was breathing pretty hard coming out of the swim and expected to catch my breath a bit on the bike. Never let up though and kept my same breathing through entire race. I had ridden the course a bunch of times before and the wind was always from the west. today....santa ana with winds from the east. so i was a little thrown off on where i could push the pace. What would you do differently?: strategize for different wind direction. get on lower handles in wind. Transition 2
Comments: Legs were tired so getting off the bike felt a little woozy....could have been quicker into the transition gate. road with my running shoes on, which saved transition time, but i'm sure i could make up more than than by using cycling shoes. Run
Comments: Legs were hurting on first half mile, but by the end of 1 1/2 miles they eased in and started feeling better. Second lap was much quicker and finished strong. What would you do differently?: i think i could have pushed it more on the first 1/2 to 1 mile. My legs were feeling it, and i slowed down thinking about them too much. could have probably used some mental toughness there to squeeze some time off. this is obviously my weakness Post race
Warm down: Walked around for 5-10 minutes drinking water. Next time i think i'd slowly jog for 5 minutes and then walk. felt like an abrupt stop a bit. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to do some hill training on the bike so that i can push through windy conditions harder. Need cycling shoes. More than anything....need to get faster on the run. too many people passing me. Event comments: This was my first Tri! I wanted to be under 1:10, not being sure about transitions and what i could do with all 3 together. So i would say that i was VERY happy with my result. Loved being 2nd out of the water too! I think with some more/better bike and run training, i can sustain the same swim and shave time off the rest. Last updated: 2011-02-10 12:00 AM

4:45 - Wake up & shower
5:00 - Change out front tire due to my valve being broken.
5:45 - Arrival, eat half a granola bar and drink some water, then to facilities. Long lines at facilities and was feeling anxious about time. I would go first next time.
6:25 - 1 mile run(should have arrived a bit earlier because i felt rushed to get my wetsuit on. the transition area closed at 6:45)
6:45 - Wetsuit on, got in the water and swam about 100-200 yards to get the arms loose
7:10 - Wave start
