Swim
Comments: I wasn't able to get in the water before the start, but thankfully the water temp wasn't bad. I felt good about this swim even if I used my "alternate" strokes for the majority of the time. Although my goggles were super foggy for the majority of the swim, I was still able to sight well and stay on course. My time was much slower than my goal time, but for whatever reason, I'm ok with it. What would you do differently?: I will definitely use some type of anti-fogger on my goggles next time! Transition 1
Comments: The distance between the swim exit and transition was quite far, but I made sure to run, get my wetsuit off my top half, and re-do my ponytail on the way. Wetsuit gave me only a slight problem getting it off my heels, but thankfully socks, shoes and helmet went on quickly. I chugged some water and ran with my bike. What would you do differently?: I could run faster and use more body glide around my ankles, but given the distance, overall I'm happy with T1. Bike
Comments: Right at the mounting line I nearly fell over...I must've missed clipping in my second foot, hit my pedal in reverse, and next thing I know, my chain is off. Not exactly how I wanted to start out on the bike. Some how my Superman hubby swooped in, reached over the barrier, grabbed my bike and got the chain back on in a flash. (OK, I know this is technically not allowed, but hey, I wasn't anywhere close to placing! And I could've gotten it back on by myself if I had to!) The course was hilly (lots of climbing in the first few miles), but it felt good. My legs and lungs felt great. And then I hit the turnaround spot...and the HEADWIND was blowing like crazy. The second half of the course was supposed to be the easy part --NOT! What would you do differently?: My performance on the bike felt pretty good, so I'm surprised at my rank in my age group. Oh well, just means I need to train harder to get faster! Transition 2
Comments: I didn't drink enough while on the bike, so I had to take a few extra seconds to chug some water before I left. Run
Comments: Great run...hills and dirt and then more dirt and hills...kept a good pace but did wimp out and walk a little up the last hill Post race
Warm down: Walked around, stretched, and re-hydrated...then enjoyed the post-race breakfast Event comments: This was the most challenging course I've ever done. My goal was to finish in 2 hours, and my finish time was 2:02:33. Given my chain mishap and the wind, I'll take the 2:02 with a smile on my face. The Iron Girl races are extremely well-organized, and I look forward to doing it again next year! :) Last updated: 2011-02-10 12:00 AM

We drove over to Vegas on Friday afternoon. I was able to leisurely check in at the expo and pick up my race packet, check out the vendors/sponsors' booths, etc. Bikes had to be racked on Friday, so I got that taken care of so we could go see the rest of the resort. (Really, my son just wanted to check out the pool.) All was good, except for that WIND...uugghh!
Up super early to eat a light breakfast (banana & an Iron Girl energy bar) and straight downstairs to get my transition area set up. I had lots of time until we started, so I made sure to stretch and chat with lots of nice gals. Swim start was a time trial format, so I headed down to the lake to get in line. For once, I was excited about the swim rather than nervous.
