Pre-race routine:

Ate some yogurt at home before leaving, had just a little water on the way down, but tried not to drink too much, bagel in the car, banana once I got there. After I got everything set up, I ate a power bar before heading to the beach to warm up.
Event warmup:

Just some light swimming, nothing too serious. Mostly got in the water to keep cool in the wetsuit.
Swim
  • 21m 27s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was able to sight very well and line myself up to my target and stay on line. The low current and chop certainly helped, as did my goggles surprisingly not fogging up. Used my new buoy rounding technique, whether it made a difference or not, I don't know. Once I cleared out ahead of my wave and got into the clear things went very smoothly, except I did get broadsided once by someone with poor navigation skills.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in the water to keep cool in the hot sun when in a wetsuit. Probably try to push a little harder, I felt like I was holding back a lot on the swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Struggled with the watch a little in T1. I know I don't NEED the watch, but I did find it helpful on the run. What I really need to do is get my bike computer back on my bike, and then I can grab the GPS in T2 and put it on while running. Felt slow running up to T1, and the baby steps up from the beach were a little awkward to navigate.
What would you do differently?:

Don't mess with the GPS watch.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 46s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt very good on the bike, although at some points I wondered if I was pushing too hard. Probably had a little more in me, especially on the climbs. Got stung by a bee right under my chin strap about 3 miles in the second loop, which was pretty painful for a few minutes until the adrenaline took over. (Got the stinger out when I got home).
What would you do differently?:

Work on those hills!
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

One of my best moments of the race was the bike dismount. Got my feet out of my shoes and swung my right leg over, jumped off at speed right at the dismount and took off sprinting into T2. Very proud of how it went, although I think I may have bruised my right heel in the process.
What would you do differently?:

Need to be quicker with the shoelaces. Probably some better style quicklaces would help a lot.
Run
  • 54m 26s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off a little too fast out of transition, then dialed it back and settled in right around 9:00/mile. When I tried to push it under 9:00, it became a little too hard to maintain. Definitely not accustomed to the heat yet. Walked every aid station to make sure I got the water in me. Positive split the first 3 miles, negative split the last 3.
What would you do differently?:

Not start out so far, and then try to hold a faster pace from there and negative split on the way in.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit, after waiting for AW and DR to finish, went and took a cooldown swim in the lake, which felt great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

On the swim, worried about pushing too hard and not having enough for the rest of the race.
Same for the bike.
On the run, I think I was afraid of the heat, and probably could have pushed harder throughout the run, especially the last three miles.

Also, legs started to feel fatigued halfway through the bike and on the run, which isn't surprising considered how hard I worked them the past 2 weeks. Didn't taper for this race at all. Probably could have done a better job of getting to bed last night too.

Event comments:

Great job HFP!
