Swim
Comments: This was my first International distance swim. It was really choppy and the first section was in the waves until the half way point. I felt really comfortable plowing through the waves, however, I did take on some water. I came out of the water feeling really good. What would you do differently?: I would give myself more time to warm up in the water. I would also tro to do more open water swims in chpy conditions. Transition 1
Comments: I forgot to open the velcro on my shoes. So when I went to put my feet into them after I was up to speed I had to reach down and open them. Not a real big deal, but this is something that I need to pay more attention to. What would you do differently?: Open my shoes!!! Bike
Comments: I just tried to maintain my goal HR and pace for my upcoming 70.3. It went well and actually felt really easy considering the nasty hills. Got off the bike feeling pretty fresh. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This race was only to work on my 70.3 pace, and it worked out great. Transition 2
Comments: I took off and forgot my gel for the run. Turned around and went back for it. Still made it out of transtion ahead of the three people I came off the bike with. What would you do differently?: Remember to put gel in my pocket before I get off the bike. Run
Comments: Ok, so I can train with no socks, but I can't race with no socks. My feet were wet from all the water I was putting over my head and my shoes ruined my feet. I had some pretty nasty cuts and open blisters by the end of the run. Good news is that the run pace felt great. It was just a nice easy cruise to finish the race. I didn't push at all. What would you do differently?: I think that I will wear socks if I race in those shoes again. Or, I may by a different pair of flats to race that distance. Post race
Warm down: Due to my ruined feet, I only ran about a mile barefoot to cooldown before I had a good stretch. Then we walked into the race to rinse off and cool down. My feet were getting swarmed by all kinds of little fish. Kind of freaky!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. I just went out and had an easy day at the races. I think that I am getting close to being ready for the Steelhead. Event comments: This is a great race in a great part of MN. The swim is great, you can see bottom for the entire swim. The volunteers are great and there was plenty of water available. Last updated: 2006-03-22 12:00 AM

Had a light breakfast of a bagle and a slim fast bar. Had about one liter or water between 5:00 am and race time. Rushed through check in and body marking trying to save enough time for a warm up.
Short warm up. Quick spin on the bike and a short run on the golf course. Did some sight stretching and began squeezing into my wet suit.
