Swim
Comments: While the air temp was really cool, the pool was nice and warm. Did a really good job of staying relaxed and not panicing or overthinking things. Unfortunately, maybe a bit too relaxed!!! Was breathing every second stroke for first 150 which really slowed me down -- major duh moment. As soon as I switched, it went much easier. Had a lot of issues with ducking under the lane dividers at the end of each 50 / that really slowed me down. I also noticed based on photos of the race that I need to work on NOT crossing over and rotating to breath. On the plus side, my extension was really, really good. Body position looked great / I was very pleased to see how I looked as the form work is paying off. Results were a bit disappointing based on time, but felt OK. In fact, actually was afraid I pushed too much as my hips/thighs were feeling a bit of fatigue at the end. What would you do differently?: A few things here. First, need to make sure that I dial back the relaxation and get focused. Messing up breathing and not keeping the form is not good. Other thing would be to learn to do flip turns as this would help immensely. Transition 1
Comments: There was about a 50 yard run from the pool to the transition area (run was through the grass). Took my time and did fine. When I got there, was not as efficient as I would have liked. What would you do differently?: Need to actually do some dry runs and work on starting quickly on the bike. Bike
Comments: For some reason this was a really tough course. The road was free of potholes, but was not was slow in most places. In addition, the wind was nasty and made it very challenging in the one direction. What would you do differently?: Race wise, I need to be able to kick it up another notch. My use of gears was solid, but just did not have the strength I wanted to push it harder. Transition 2
Comments: Went fairly smoothly. Pleased with this. What would you do differently?: Practice Run
Comments: Man this was a bitXX. I've done my bricks and always feel great. Today, things just sucked as my legs were cramping on me the entire time. My cardio/conditioning was awesome and I was ready to kick it up a notch the entire time. Unfortunately, whenever I would push a bit, could feel the muscles start to lock up. It got worse and worse as the run progressed. I was only able to keep an 8:50 pace which is quite disappointing. However, on the positive side, I got all I could out of the body that was with me today. What would you do differently?: I really need to start looking at speed work and pushing myself harder. At the end of the race, I felt great from a cardio standpoint. Was hardly even breathing hard / fully recovered inside a couple of minutes. However, my legs were on the verge of cramping. Need to figure out how to improve in this area. Post race
Warm down: No specific warm down / just a light walk and a little stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: I lack any speed training / have been doing all of my workouts at slow, steady paces. As I tried to kick it up a notch today, it was not there. Event comments: This was the first year for this event. Tons of volunteers who were great. Organization was a bit lacking. Prior to the start, not efficient in getting timing chips out. Afterwards, the drinks were a long walk from the finish and things were again disorganized. However, for the first time think they did a really nice job and expect that in future years it'll go more smoothly. Last updated: 2011-03-06 12:00 AM

We stayed at a hotel about 2.5 miles from the race. Had a bagle, banana and a glass of OJ.
Rode the bike over nice and easy. Did a bit of stretching.
