Swim
Comments: Had a great swim for me and a huge improvement over my last Olympic distance race. Being from Chicago the cool water temp was great and refreshing. Settled in to my zone and just swam till the finish line. Had a hard time sighting the buoy as it was fairly far away but I just kept following the swimmers in front of me hoping they were going the right direction. What would you do differently?: Start stopwatch before I get in the water - whoops! Figured it out when I exited the swim and my timer wasn't running. Also I need to get better at drafting. Transition 1
Comments: T1 wasn't bad. Had a little trouble with my wetsuit getting stuck on my left ankle due to timing chip. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Bike
Comments: Since I came from Chicago I rented a road bike for this race. Got a full carbon Raleigh Supercourse. The bike went amazing compared to my last Olympic. Because I didn't have a bike computer I was maintaining a comfortable speed based on cadence & heart rate. Regardless, I ended up averaging over 19mph bettering my 16.7 at Chicago. Had a full pack of gu chomps on the bike and 2 small water bottles of Gatorade. What would you do differently?: Bring my own bike! Transition 2
Comments: T2 went fine. In to my running shoes, running belt on, and off I went. Run
Comments: Had a great run for me. At 5'10" and 225lbs I'm not a skinny guy. I was able to use my ipod (per race rules) and that kept me in the zone. 10 minute miles for me over 6 miles is awesome! What would you do differently?: Bring a hat Post race
Warm down: Just had a bottle of water, a banana and some animal crackers What limited your ability to perform faster: Tri bike instead of road bike? Event comments: I took over an HOUR off of my last Olympic distance race. I was quite happy! Last updated: 2011-03-07 12:00 AM
