  • Comments: The organizers did a good job with the event under less than ideal conditions. It was well organized, and they can’t control the weather. They made the right decision to proceed. It would have been a big disappointment to cancel, and conditions were fine for most of the morning. Everything that was in their control, they did well. It was a quality event.

  • Comments: Drove from OC to Palm Spring in the AM. It took almost 2 hours. Which I will not drive on the race morning next year. I will find a inn to stay the night before. I will be back in 2014. I love this course.

  • Comments: So after the race, I looked at the results and saw that I beat Joby Gutierrez and Jeffrey Ku, both significantly better runners, by seconds that I made up in transition. Whew! 2-4 only separated by like 30 seconds. Very happy with this season opener. Lots to improve on and stoked on where my swim/bike combo fitness is at this early. Goal for this year is Vegas. Might have an outside shot at a spot at Oceanside but my real opportunity will probably come at Boise. Oside tends to attract a really fast field. I'd like to thank all my sponsors Wattie Ink, blueseventy, Scott, Power Bar, KSwiss, Kask and Wins Wheels. My corporate sponsors 101 Pipe and Casing, Inc & Kurt Orban Partners. I'd also like to thank my teammates of the Wattie Ink Elite team who absolutely cleaned up at this race. Special thanks to my girlfriend Karin Langer for re-inspiring me to get back after it this year. After a little bit of burnout at the end of last year's season, she has really become a light in my

  • Overall course based on my ability:

  • Comments: I was 17 minutes faster than last year's time! From 2:30:48 down to 2:13:38. I had time improvements across the board. 4 minutes on the swim, 4.5 minute on the bike, and 8.5 mimute improvement on the run. If only I could say the same about my transition times... I could definitely gone faster on the run without the potty break, running pains but I have no regrets. I had a great race and a great way to start the 2012 triathlon racing season!

  • Comments: After the race, I found Ashley and we got our stuff gathered up. We also headed over to the finish line to cheer on our friends and teammates who were starting the second loop of their run. We got there just in time to see Heather Jackson come by IN THE OVERALL LEAD. She held on to the finish and became the first female to win the overall in 13 years. Big congrats to her. Huge congrats to all our friends and teammates who raced. There are simply too many to list. Thanks are in order to all my sponsors. First off to Wattie Ink. I'm so proud to be a part of the Wattie Ink Elite Team. It is a fantastic opportunity to represent some great team sponsors and have that team camaraderie at races. For a list of team sponsors head over to wattieink.com. Also, my personal sponsors, 101 Pipe & Casing, Kurt Orban Partners, Third Pillar Racing and Wins Wheels. Special thanks to Ashley. Even though she had a hard weekend, she kept her head up and supported everyone around her like nothing happened.

  • Comments: This was a fantastic, low key event. Over 700 participants, but it never felt crowded. Next year I think I'll bring the family and tent trailer and camp at the lake. I'll be back next year either way.

  • Comments: I pretty much just treated this race as practice for my upcoming longer distance races (Wildflower, Vineman). I've had two biking accidents in the last two months, and barely started resuming training after the second accident just a week before this race. I was a little frustrated afterward, but thinking back on how far I've come from last year despite my setbacks, I feel blessed to be alive and walking, let along racing.

  • Comments: I noticed that there were a lot of super fit people at the race expo the day before. It seems like this race attracts a lot of good atheletes. Plus there were a lot of Tri Teams competing too. It is a great event and an excellent race to break into the Olympic Distance.

  • Comments: I think I'm being hard on myself. If I didn't have access to other people's results I would honestly be the happiest girl in the world. I trained so fucking hard, I raced as hard as I could, and finished in my A goal. I set 3 goals and I literally accomplished my A goal! It was my second triathlon and first olympic so I'm just going to be proud of myself. I can't wait to see how much I can improve over the years!

  • Comments: This is a good race. The race director seems to care about the event and it doesn't seem like it's all about the bottom line. The course is easy and this year the weather was very good for an early season race. If anything, it got a bit hot on the run, but all in all, I can't complain. The run course is known for being a little short and this year, I think the swim course may have been a bit long. Either that, or last year it might have been a bit short - there was some wind last year and the current may have brought the far buoy in a bit? Anyway, conditions were a non-factor. It was a good workout and nice to hang out with training buds. I felt lucky to have Monica there to sherpa for me.

  • Comments: This is a great kick off the to season. It's an easy course that allows for a good workout if you're already in training for a bigger race, or is a great course to use for preseason evaluation of yourself. The race result rankings seem a little screwy, so the numbers I used for my overall position in each event is based on sorting result by time and then counting to find myself. It was always different than what they had listed.

  • Comments: I think there should have been one more water station on the run. It was getting really hot and dry out there and the water stops were almost 2 miles apart. (at about 1/4 mile, then not again till almost mile 2 - repeat on lap 2) On m second loop, the second station was out of cups and just pouring water in to our mouths right from the 2.5 gallon jugs. (oh well, I got water and a cool off at the same time)

  • Comments: As always they do a great job on this race. At the finish line, guy said my name and I put my hands up in the air and smiled. Hope they got that one on film. ;) Well run event. They could have had some oranges and more bananas and maybe one more water station on the run, but overall another great event my Klein-Clark sports. My 4th year doing this tri. It was my first...you always remember your first. That one was a sprint tri though. Had an awesome talk with the woman I drove out with -- a good friend who had also recently lost someone she loved so we were able to share some stories and listen to each other -- very healing.
