Swim
Comments: I'd only swam 500 yards in the last 2 weeks and my swim was definitely below average. The first half I was having some trouble with getting good deep breaths. The second half I got into a good rhythm and felt nice and relaxed. After the first few 100 yards, I was pretty much on my own. I sighted every 3-4 strokes and felt this was my best navigating race. I was noticing how far off some people were (usually I'm one of them). What would you do differently?: Try to get at least 2 swims a week to keep in swimming shape. I should have been a minute or more faster which would have given me a PR for this race. Transition 1
Comments: I didn't push to be that fast for this transition and I wasn't. I hated the chips for this race that were very large and made it difficult to get the wetsuit off. My transition area (assigned rack) was very sandy and I spent a little time cleaning the sand off my feet. I also was a little slow with my new shoes. What would you do differently?: Maybe practice the night before? Bike
Comments: I just had a bike fit 3 days before with 175mm crank arms replacing the 170mm arms I had. I felt a bit more pressure on my knees, but in general, I felt much more efficient. I was bout 0.9 mph faster than my last race in may but was MUCH fresher for the run. What would you do differently?: My strategy to not kill myself on the bike worked out well. Besides a better bike and more training with the new bike fit, I wouldn't change anything. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty smooth transition. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I felt the best I've felt in a long time on the run. My knees were a bit sore, but manageable. I kept a pretty consistent pace and all but the 6th mile were under 8 minutes. Post race
Warm down: Just did some walking around. Event comments: Nice race. This was my 3rd year. Last updated: 2011-03-19 12:00 AM

I got up around 4:00 and had a light breakfast. I did some stretching, including using my foam roller on my IT bands, before leaving for the race.
At the race site I did some light jogging and additional stretching.
