Pre-race routine:

Left Lenoir City around 5:30 and made it to Knoxville a little after 6:00. Found a parking space near the transition area. Set up transition while Jenn waited in the car with Rory. He crashed out. Ate a Honey Stinger waffle about an hour before race time (6:30). Left transition at 7:00 and walked to swim start with Jenn and Rory. They waited at the swim exit and I walked the .5 mile or so to Calhouns where the swim start was. Used the porta john and waited for the 7:30 wave start.
Event warmup:

None. Hopped in the water and waited a few minutes before our wave started.
Swim
  • 42m 59s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

Need to work on swim. Saw several different swim cap colors of those in other waves that were passing me.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster. Felt like it took forever.
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

First race with having shoes clipped in for T1. Got feet in shoes alright and straps fastened. I think one of the rubber bands was rubbing in my tire for about 10 to 15 seconds. Started to get worried and then it stopped. Must have broke loose. Not sure what happened. Before this went to put my race belt on my number came undone. I wasted about 10 seconds or more putting my number back on the belt and then didn't wear my number for the bike. Shouldn't have worried about this until T2.
What would you do differently?:

Not messed with race belt and bib number.
Bike
  • 2h 50m 3s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Neck towards end started getting tight but it was nice on the hills to sit up and stretch it out. Took a Hammer Endurolyte pill every hour and gel every hour. Took these 15 minutes apart and seemed to work well. Felt good in the saddle, much different than what I felt for Steelhead. Bike felt great. Aero water bottle was nice. Was able to fill up the aero bottle easily. Bento bag worked good as well.
What would you do differently?:

Push it a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
Comments:

Smooth transition. Didn't wear socks and got my shoes on quickly.
Run
  • 1h 30m 30s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt strong throughout the run. Took a couple of gels and switched between water and gatorade. Ate a banana at the aid station leaving T2 and had another one around mile 9 or so.
Post race
Warm down:

Plopped down in Worlds Fair Park and ate some bagel and PB and tried some Muscle Milk. Watched Rory go up and down the inflatables.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

Great race. Really enjoyed the Little Rev Adventure Race on Saturday. The race was well organized and really liked the family atmosphere. Love that my son and I were able to run in together. That will be a lifelong memory that he and I will share!
