Pre-race routine:

My husband and I were racing the TTT as a team, trying to defend our title as Co-Ed champs. This was the first race of the 3 day, 4 race event in the gorgeous hills of Shawnee State Park.
Event warmup:

This spring has been the coldest, wettest spring imaginable, and we hadn't gotten a chance to go open water swimming before today. So, even though the swim is 200 yards, we still got into our wetsuits, and practiced the course before the first gun at 5:00pm. It was frigid, but it was amazing how well my wetsuit protects me from the cold- only my face and feet were cold. I love my De Soto 2-piece!

  • 273 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

They send the athletes off in a time-trial start- 2 by 2. I started with Birkierunner for most of the event since I was athlete #62 and he was 63. This swim was over before it even began, and I had a great time being in a race. I was SO ready to race this weekend!
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Wetsuit got incredibly stuck. First time that's happened in this wetsuit!
Bike
  • 11m 36s
  • 5 miles
  • 25.86 mile/hr
Comments:

After a brief downhill, you turn around and climb 2 miles to give you a little taste of what the weekend holds. My garmin batter died before the race, so I didn't have any power numbers to go by. I just made sure my legs didn't get too threshold-y and held a steady effort up the hill. On the way down, I did my best not to break, but Dah-yum that is a screamin' descent!
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

Quick quick! Probably my fastest ever T2 :)
Run
  • 06m 1s
  • 1 miles
  • 06m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Again, no garmin, so I just ran kinda hard, but not all heavy-breathing. It felt AMAZING. I was so happy with my legs and lungs.

This is probably my fastest recorded mile- even my mile repeats are usually slower. Course must've been short ;)
Post race
Warm down:

After every race, we jump in the creek to cool off, since it's an ice bath, and then gorge ourselves on all of the food that HFP provides.

Event comments:

Great race. I was 2nd female- only a former pro, Paolina Allan beat me. Oh, and of course my speedy husband beat me too.
