Once again OWS kicked my butt. Could not breathe well and got spooked - ended up breast stroking at least 2/3 of the course....
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim in open water!!!

Practice taking the wetsuit off.

Thought I would do better. Was shooting for 33-34 min and thought I had it according to my bike computer mph but the distance was off...over 13miles...was good while it lasted.

HR was really high and had to slow down a bit to get it under control. Was looking for a 6:20-6:25 pace as I had been doing in training but not even close today.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was completely unable (once again) to deal with the OWS. The ruptured ear drum in Oceanside did not allow me to swim for 5 weeks until 5 days prior to race day left me with poor swim fitness and combined with the fact I panicked the end result was my HR was SKY HIGH (179) when I got into T1...it cost me on the bike and run. I need to swim open water to get comfortable and be able to keep my cool

Great race and well organized. Feel lucky to have such a fun race in my back yard.
