Swim
Comments: This was my first OWS ever in a wetsuit too and it went surprsingly well. There were a few moments where I had a slight panic when I would bump or feel someone next to me or if I was close to their arms or feet that would through my breathing and head movement out of rhythm, but for the most part, I felt that I swam strong and continued to remind myself not to kick hard so I wouldn't be out of breath. What would you do differently?: I would practice sighting/spotting as I had never done this before and caught myself swimming slightly off course a couple of times that may have made me swim a little longer than 400m. Transition 1
Comments: It was a pretty long walk/run to the transition area and to my bike from the swim out. Wetsuit came off surprisingly fast and did not get stuck on my ankles or heels. Felt a little dizzy coming out of the swim into my first transition which took me a little long to put my cycle shoes on. Also put my running shorts on over my tri shorts. Went sockless. Fortunate enough to have my bike closest to the bike out location. What would you do differently?: not dry my feet and just put my tri cycle shoes on despite having lots of baby powder in them. Bike
Comments: There was about 15 seconds where I was messing around with my gears and I freaked out b/c it felt like the chain came off and wouldn't move forward. After about 20 more seconds I managed to get the gears going and was able to make up that loss time. I felt that I could have biked harded but did not want to expend all my energy and effort since I've always been weakest on the run. What would you do differently?: Continue to get stronger and faster on the bike leg. Transition 2
Comments: Took me a few seconds before I realized where my rack was since the transition area was so huge but I ended up putting my socks on and slid my shoes on (thanks to my yankz laces) and also put a nike dri fit shirt on. Put my mp3 player on and my running hat and I was off. What would you do differently?: maybe go sockless during the run part and start training by running sockless to get used to it. Run
Comments: Although I felt good and really happy about not stopping to walk on the run part, I still have some dissappoint in my run performance despite it being my weakest part. I wore my HRM and it was avg 185 with the highest going to 191. I know I need to continue to work on my fitness level to get faster and stronger. What would you do differently?: Increase fitness level. Include an uptempo run per week and a interval run per week to get faster. Post race
Warm down: Had some of the post race snacks that were available and then had breakfast at 10am at a mexican restaurant with family and g/f. What limited your ability to perform faster: Increase fitness level Event comments: Overall, I had a great time and really enjoyed doing this sprint tri. The support and organization of this event was the best I've ever been to. I was surprised on how well I handled the swim portion given that it was my first OWS and 3rd time ever to swim in a wetsuit. This was my 4th sprint tri and really glad I flew in from Phoenix to do it. I look forward to doing next years and getting a better time! Last updated: 2011-04-04 12:00 AM
